Angelic Warlord discography update

In a recent thread I talked about adding a discography section to Angelic Warlord. Well, after a fair amount of research and trial and error this past week, I put together what I feel is a decent looking template for a discography section.

Please note that this is NOT an official part of the site yet. For example, there are no links to the page at Angelic Warlord. This thread (and others I might start) is the only way to find the page.

Right now I am hoping to get everyone's input in regards to the page. Does it look good? How easy is it to navigate? And most important, does it include the information you might be looking for? What other information would you be interested in seeing and/or reading about?

Also, I am exploring options about adding interactive elements as well so that readers can add their own comments or even post their own reviews.

I like it, and it is really easy to navigate.

Here are a couple of suggestions.

- As you already mentioned it would be cool to have a place where we could comment, but if it is included on the same page it might be a lot to wade through just to scroll down to the next album.

- Would love to see a picture of the band from that line-up/era when the album was recorded (or toured in support of). That would set the pages apart from the Firestream Vault. I also wouldn't be afraid to include the alternate covers (when you can find them).

- Make sure you add a link for the albums you have done reviews for and feature it prominently (maybe below the album image or somewhere else where it will stand out).

You do not have to scroll down at all. I set anchor links on the album titles just below the bio. So if you want to add comments about "Rattle Your Cage" all you need to do is just select the link and you are there. But adding comments is still an option I am looking into (if I pursue a discography).

I followed your advise and did include a band photo but a photo from all era's of a bands history might be problematic. And yes, including alternate covers is a priority. As for BC, I was unable to find a good scan of the "blue cover" of "Believe".

Another good suggestion that I implemented.

I would like to add that a discography would be a MAJOR undertaking. It was quite time consuming putting together a discography for just one band- so covering the entire Christian metal scene would be quite the challenge.

If I do pursue a discography, my initial plan is to start from the ground up (with the eighties) and begin with the letter A (for Angelica and Armageddon) and gradually work up to Z for Zion.

Initially I would cover the more well known bands (with at least two albums out) and go from there. Although bands that have been around forever - Bride and Deliverance come to mind - are going to present some challenges.

Isn't this mostly covered by the Firestream vault? Not to put a downer on your site (which I like), but it seems like doubling efforts...

You bring up a valid point- because this is covered by the Firestream vault and many other similar sites out there (you would not believe how many discography sites exist).

So is there really a need for what I am doing? And besides, the discography sites (such as Firestream vault) concentrate on one thing and one thing only- archiving the albums of current and past artists (and they do that VERY well). I might not be able to do that as efficiently because Angelic Warlord focuses on reviews, news and interviews- and now a discography.

You could do selective discographies on various bands though. Maybe famous bands who've had many albums, so people could see all the "little" albums they've produced back in the early days.

If it's an exhaustive list then it's gonna be exhaustive to keep up to date! But if it's selective, then you can choose what to put on there, and update it when you have the chance.

Another idea would be to just to discographies of the bands you've reviewed albums of. So if someone reads a review on your pages, likes what they read and then buys the album, they can then go back to your site click on "discography" and get a list of all that bands albums.

Thanks for the input. Looks like a selective discography is what I am leaning towards- specifically focusing on bands that are well known or those that I have already reviewed (and just update it when I have a chance).

For example, If I have time this weekend I might put together an Angelica discography and go from there- maybe do one artist per week.

I am close to 90% finished with a discography page for Saint.

While I am committed to a discography section at Angelic Warlord, it is quite time consuming putting each individual page together. For example, each CSS layer needs to be keyed in by hand, the artwork needs to be scanned (or tracked down online) and the track list/band line up needs to be transcribed. A VERY pain staking process.

When factoring in full length albums, EP's, re-issues and various compilations and live albums, the Saint catalog consists of 15 releases. It has taken forever to put together the Saint page.

And the past couple of weeks I have had not had the opportunity to work on the discography section. What spare time I have had has been spent on the most recent updates to the site.

It's a shame that they are so time consuming. They look fantastic.

Fundy, thanks for the offer. I definitely plan on taking you up on this because some of the older releases from Seventh Avenue are missing from my collection.

Wow, man these are great! It reminds me of the old BNR Metal Pages, but those are even better! Nice job.
