Sterling Koch the guitar player for Victory In Heaven has a new side project called "61 South" that is blues in a classic rock style reminiscent of Z.Z. Top or George Thorogood.

Sounds pretty good. Several of the songs, though, have been released on VIH CDs.

I love Sterling Koch's music. His cd Jams is stellar blues. I'd love to pick up this one someday. Smile

61 South is not a side project as Victory In Heaven Band disbanded last year. While some of the songs on the new CD are in fact from previous VIH CDs 3 of them were done acoustically by VIH and are now given the full band, electric treatment on the 61 South CD. Also, thanks for the kind words about the Jams CD.

The cd came in, and I have listened to it a couple of times. This is a very good cd, fans of George Thorougood will love this. I wish more people made music like this.
The slide guitar is excellent.

Thanks for the kind words regarding the 61 South CD and thanks all for the welcome. I really missed talking blues and other stuff since the message boards closed at christianblues.net. Lots of good people over there. The steel (slide) guitar is used by necessity. I'm glad so many people are responding so positively to it. Talk again soon. Thanks all!

You will find several blues fans here, Sterling. I used to post a little over at ChristianBlues.com as well.

VIH was one of the better blues projects out there that I had heard. I am also a fan of Glenn Kaisers solo stuff, the rock side of Raging Grace, and the Mighty Jeremiahs. So, it's cool that you're keeping the blues style alive.

Yes, the Mighty Jeremiahs CD was a nice surprise. I've been a big Jimmy Hall fan from way back. I would recommend finding the new Jack Pearson CD (onetime Almman Brother and appeared on Jimmy's solo CD) at CDBaby for some killer slide.

Sterling sent me a copy. I can say that it is done incredibly well, and his slide guitar is very reminiscent of artists like George Thoroughgood, Jeff Healey, and early ZZ Top. Good work, Sterling.

Yes, that would be my advice but I am biased as I did play on the album.
