Mission Of One - Cordelia CHM debut!

Here is the first song that I am working on.  I would like any suggestions you have about the music and mix, please.

I am really embracing my natural vcice and trying to incorporate that into this song.  I can mimic Randy Rose, Alice Cooper, Gene Simmons and others fairly well, but I think my strength will be getting comfortable with my own voice since I don't know any available metal singers.

I am performing everything in the song except for the lead guitar.  Kevin Hasselquist (aka Pethead) has graciously doner the solo.

You're bang on with your vocals there.  Fits really well with the music.  I'm no guy to comment on the mix, but I can tell this suits your vocals really well (love the bit with the high vocals at the 2.27 point.)

It might be the youtube quality (or even my cheap computer speaker), but the drums and bass seem a little muted (or quiet/lost) in the mix.  I would have liked for the guitars to be a little "punchier" sounding (maybe because that is because I just got used to finished listening to Twisted Sister).  Your vocals and the guitar solo sound fantastic.

In my headphones the overall musical mix sounds a tad muddy while the vocals are good.  The rhythm guitar sounds like it was recorded in a box.  Lead sounds good.

I have to fix the sound  of my computer so I can hear it too.
Bummer that I can't hear it.

And how would I lose the boxy sound?

How are you recording the guitar?

Based on my limited recording experience it sounds to me like the sound is more of the room than of the actual cab.

I am running my Spark Amp directly into the interface.  One guitar is the sound of Nita Strauss with Alice Cooper and the second guitar is Jake E. Lee's Ozzy tone.  I don't ever mic cabinets as I don't have proper space to do so.

Interesting.  I would have thought it was recorded with a mic.

I haven't put a mic on a cabinet since my first CD.  I have always used a cab simulator.

Here's a new mix of it.  I took the delay off the rhythm guitars and boosted the highs on them as well to try to make them sound more crisp.  I also boosted the bass a tad.

Definitely a better mix.  Sounds a bit more polished.  The overall volume is much quieter than the first one.  I had turn my volume up.

I definitely found it better than the first mix.

It is quieter because of the limiter and compressor I used on the master track.   Since it isn't mastered, that gives me room to bring the volume up without worrying about clipping.

I am going to hopefully master this today after a couple of quick adjustments to the mix.  If I have a keeper, then I am going to get a friend of mine to do a lyric video for this song.  I think it could be a good way to show what else is coming.  This isn't the heaviest song on the album by any means.

Is there anything in this song that needs changing, or it is it good enough to pay to have a lyric video professionally done?  I want to do this and want to submit my best if possible.

Since I heard the song on a mission trip to Memphis with the Brinkley Heights Urban Academy, all proceeds from this song will go to help them in their mission to reach the kids in their neighborhood that is overrun with drugs, gangs, prostitution, etc.  The story is a condensed version of what the pastor that helped start the academy told about a very real woman who ran the streets there and came against them until God called her and she was born again.

Yes!  I have the music for all the songs done and the vocals.  I have the lead guitar solos for 5 tracks already and hope to get the rest done before the summer is over.

You are too close to your own music.  Same with many other kinds of art.
This is why they have pre-release screenings for movies.  So they can get feedback from other people.

Sometimes you have to take a step back for a day or 2 and come back to it with fresh ears.
