I know at least one of us purchased that first Latter Reign demo album, and reported that the audio quality was as poor as we had feared listening to the youtube video.
Well it looks like their second volume is coming out on Roxx Records. The press release makes it sound as if the songs had been re-recorded for this release (at least in part), but this still sounds like older demo quality to me, and sadly the vocals are a bit buried. So not nearly as rough/poor sounding as the first release, but far from what I would expect from a modern independent recording (maybe I have just been spoiled by the quality recordings we get from Big Chris & DBBB, John & Jenny (E&S), Joshua's Creed and Lordchain). Let me know what you think.

This still sounds better than the first album . it sounded worse than some of the bootleg albums that were being sold by Retrospect Records.
This sounds like a demo that has been beefed up by recording more parts. While not perfect, it is an improvement from the first one which I find to be unlistenable.

I must say that the new Latter Reign CD is a vast improvement! While it was still a demo album, it sounds like they might have laid a few new parts to it to fatten up the sound. It still sounds dated, but I like what they have done with this one! Now, I wish they would redo the first one so I could actually enjoy it!

This new album sounds like a mix of Love Life, the first Siloam album, E'nuff Z'nuff, and a dash of Trixter.

I'm digging the new album. Shame they couldn't put out a better album cover though

Better artwork would have been nice but it isn't a deal breaker.
I just wish the first album was listenable. The sound quality is horrid.

That's good to know. I like the 2nd album so much I was interested in getting the 1st. But if it's that bad, I'll pass

The first CD sounds like they took an old worn out cassette with a lot of decay that you can hear every time they hit the high hat or cymbals, ripped it to 128 kbps, and then tried to remaster that and burn it to CD. Sadly, you can polish something that low quality and make it sound SOME better, but you can't hide that decay. They would almost have been better off to overlay more cymbals and high hat over this to help hide that natural decay.
If you don't mind that kind of sound, then you might enjoy it. However, knowing that I bought what was supposedly a professional release, I almost didn't buy the new one as I felt we all got a poor quality project but paid a premium price. If Roxx, Retroactive, or Girder ever release something that bad in the future, I will be asking for a refund.
