I bought my wife a new Gateway laptop for Valentines Day.  She loves the red color and the speed of how the machine works.

Sadly, we cannot get it to model her screen onto the projector at church even with a working HDMI to VGA adapter.  I can hook a DSL monitor to it and it will display what is on her screen or change settings where she can have two displays.  What can I do to get this laptop to talk to our projector?  My laptop, which is a number of years older, can do it just fine using the same HDMI to VGA adapters.

Next question:  We have a Ring camera.  It worked fine on my old AT&T DSL.  Since switching to a local company, the new service has a router that is running on 5G LTE.  The Ring is an older model that doesn't seem to recognize the new service at all.  It cannot connect to the router even though everything else in the house can.  The company gave me an Intellinet router to use in conjunction with the new 5G LTE router.  Even following the instructions provided with the Intellinet, I cannot configure it to allow me access to the internet on any machine and especially not the Ring.

Is there a different device I need to get the Ring to talk to the 5G router that can convert the signal to 3G, or do I need to get another Ring that is newer?

Sometimes you have to hit the Function key plus the F-Key that has the monitor settings on it.

That is if you haven't tried that yet.

Would those settings be the same ones you would go to thru the settings app and then under display?

+1 (no, not Windows settings, but the laptop itself).

Typically Windows does recognize when you plug in another monitor/projector, but the adapter may hamper that. I cannot get my new monitor to work using a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter so I have to stick with the old VGA cable. Evil or Very Mad  If Windows doesn't detect it automatically, click the "Detect" button in the "Multiple displays" section of Display settings as you asked about above. and maybe it will find it then.

As for your router, the 5G should have nothing to do with connecting to its wifi. I wouldn't have thought Rings were so old they wouldn't run on more recent wifi modes and encryption so maybe the router has some of the slower modes (e.g., B & G) turned off or the Ring only supports 2.4 GHZ and that is turned off or a less secure encryption and that is turned off. Lots of reasons something may not connect. It should have a web interface where you can change settings unless the company has it locked down.

As for the Intellinet router, it's probably set in gateway rather than bridge mode (I'm assuming you're trying to connect to its wifi and then it is wired to the 5G router and then out to the internet)

The model Ring I have, from what I gather from their forums, only supports 2.4 GHz.  I have a wi-fi extender that is set for that.  Hopefully this will solve my problem.
