It’s official. 3/10 - pre-op health check, 3/11 or 12 - COVID test, 3/16 - shoulder surgery. I will be completely off work for two weeks, then working job #1 (computer programmer) from home for four to five weeks after that. I will not be able to return to job #2 (pizza delivery) until the end of May at the earliest.

Friends, I am asking for lots of prayer. The reason I don’t work from home now is because I hate being alone in that big house! Add to that the fact that my wife’s lease ends on April 30 and I really don’t know if she plans to come home.... and now she has declined to help me with my recovery, making me rely on friends. BUT I WILL NOT BE BITTER! God is so awesome and has blessed me far beyond what I deserve. Somehow He will use this for my good! In fact, He had the details all worked out before I was born, so I know He’s got this!

Getting the pre-op right now. Doc says EKG looks great, does not expect any problems. Friends have stepped up to bring me food, take me to the hospital and back home, etc. God is awesome.

That is great news.  I hope your recover goes well and that the pain doesn't last too long.

Technically, the shoulder surgery was a failure. The surgeon was unable to repair the torn rotator cuff. The muscles had just been retracted for too long. So what he did is what is called a HemiCAP which is a partial shoulder reconstruction that involved putting a steel cap on the end of the humorous within the shoulder joint that allows the shoulder to move without the bones rubbing together, something the rotator cuff normally prevents. Will I ever be able to raise my arm all the way up again? Probably not; the surgeon doesn’t think so. I’ll just have to learn to live with not having a complete shoulder on the left side. Not anything that’s too different from how it’s been. The good news is I’ll go to physical therapy and they will teach me exercises that I can then use in the gym that will help my deltoid muscles learn how to compensate and lift my arm as much as possible. So God said no to the full healing request, but the recovery period is shorter, I can go back to work sooner, I can work in the garden this summer, I can continue the bathroom remodel, I can ride my motorcycle this summer, you know all those things I wouldn’t be able to do with a 4 to 6 month recovery period. Even more important: I can get back involved with my Bible studies and small groups; I have four of those that I go to each week. I was not looking forward to missing those.

Beardad, I have a coworker that has the same thing happen to him. The rotator could not be repaired but they did what they could and he does t have pain. However he cannot lift his arm all the way up. I hear it's actually common for a repair of the muscle not to work.

Bummed that your surgery wasn't a complete success.  I hope your recovery is going well.
