PostSubject: CD design help!!!   CD design help!!! I_icon_minitimeThu Oct 11, 2018 8:21 am

I am having extreme difficulty figuring out the Amazon Disc On Demand thing.  I have the song titles and lengths added.  What I cannot do is the images.  Everything I have seems to be too small.  I don't know anything about digital image manipulation.  Here is what I need:

I have the credits all typed out but need them done in the right format (JPEG).  I have the front and back cover pictures but I need text added to the back.  I don't know anything about making CD inserts.  I am as lost as last year's easter egg.

This is part of being an indie musician that I hate.  You have to be a songwriter, performer, be your own studio engineer & producer, do your own marketing, and be a design artist, too.  It is too much, really.  If you can't do it yourself, you have to pay someone which is near impossible because you are an indie artist with no budget.  I definitely see why so many people are just going digital these days as there isn't nearly as much going into the release as you don't have to do all the artwork design.

Can you tell I am frustrated???

What program did you use to create the images? Photoshop? MS Paint? Whichever one it is you need to RESIZE the images. However you need to make sure they don't get distorted when you do that.

Or I'd be happy to help you out. If you send me the images I can rework them to the specs above and send them back to you today. If you're having trouble getting the text you want onto the images I can do that too, just send me the text in MS word or in an email. PM me and I'll give you my email address to send them to if you want.

I will have to get in touch with Fundy.  He did the cover.  The back cover is just a generic "man overboard" nautical flag.

Printing and designing can be a nightmare.  I've worked in printing for 20 years (on the print finishing side), and it's always tricky getting the design to the correct point.  PDF's being a particular bugbear in that if they aren't flattened then all manner of things can go wrong.  We try and make everything as a spread with 3mm bleed all the way round.  So if you're having a 4 page CD insert, then you basically design 2 spreads (one with the front and back cover on and the other with page 2 and 3 on).  That way it should print fine.

But as I'm no designer, when I do any designing (currently working on calendars and christmas cards) I work closely with the printer in case there is any issue.
