Got hit up for cash again by a homeless guy

So I went to a local Chinese buffet yesterday for lunch.  This homeless dude hit me up to pay for his lunch while I stood in a short line to pay my bill.  He gave me the typical "I'm a homeless vet & I'm hungry" spiel that most of these guys give you nowadays.

i noticed that he already had a bill.  So, I just ignored the guy because he has already eaten and is now EXPECTING someone to pay for him.  After I paid for mine, I turned to leave but did turn to see what he would do as I walked out the door.  He pulled out a wad of cash and paid his own bill!  The dude was carrying way more money than I was to say the least, and he had the cajones to ask someone to pay for his lunch that he'd already eaten!  If you were that broke, why wouldn't you be hitting someplace CHEAP to eat instead of a buffet that was $10.99 at lunch?

And then the homeless wonder why people are skeptical of their claims to need help.....

Unfortunately, there are so many scammers out there that we become harden to even those who truly are in need.

True, that. Staff from the local shelter have told me (when they visited our church during sponsorship drive) that most of the panhandlers on street corners are scammers. They gave us a small stack of handbills with their information, for handing out to these folks. The shelter staff is trained on not getting emotionally played by con artists.

Usually, the only emotion I end up with when they approach me and ask for a handout is anger.  If I knew they were telling me the truth, that might change things.  Or, if I didn't know about all the local helps for homeless persons, I might be more inclined.  But, as it stands, it typically makes me mad especially when you see the same guys over and over.  Usually, they have a strong smell of alcohol as well.

Me too (or are we up to three by now?) 

We only act like we are three!!!

There's this band of folks who are pulling a fast one in my town by pretending their van is out of gas and panhandling for purported gas $.  I've seen them at my local Walmart, at a used car dealership, and it's getting really old really fast.
