My wife is a fan of EDM. She wanted some music for Christmas, but I have no idea how to even start picking things in that genre. I ended up going a different route for gifts, but there's always Valentine's and other occasions ahead.
I thought learning a bit about it would be good, so I turned to Wikipedia. Upon learning there are like nine dozen sub-genres, my brain shut down (in self defense, perhaps). Good grief. I thought metal had a goodly number of sub-genres. Dance music seems to be developing new names on a monthly basis, so I don't know how to get a grasp on it or keep up without any point of reference.
There aren't many music stores around anymore where a guy can go and listen/browse, and maybe ask a knowledgeable person. Most Christian stores don't have a large music department, or even any staff devoted and knowledgeable about music. So I'm asking here instead. I know that in the rock and metal realm, people compile style comparison lists: "if you like X, try Y" or "this Christian group A sounds a lot like secular band B". Maybe that exists for EDM too? But I don't know where I'd find it.
I've heard that Christian EDM is a fairly big thing, so I should be able to find some she'd like. Though when the music is mostly (to my ear, anyway) looped samples and repetitive lyrics, is there much to go by when calling it "Christian"? OTOH that could work in my favor, because a secular group can't say much that's bad if they're not saying much at all anyway.
Mainly she listens to the Sirius stations BPM and Chill in the car, if that helps. I think it's called "house" but there are many varieties even under that moniker. I could get some artist names off the display and just get that, but I've no idea if they'd be any good or only have that one decent track.
Mainly I just want to make sure I'm not bringing something obnoxious into our home. She wouldn't appreciate it, and we definitely wouldn't want it played around the kids. If anyone can help me out, thank you.
