| When it comes to Christian metal, there can only be one Big D and that would be Deliverance, right? Well, unless you are half my age or less, never heard of them, and then Big D is Disciple.
So, which one is your Big D? I am asking you to choose a favorite. The nickname really means nothing, but I have seen arguments in the past at message boards over this very thing. So, which will it be? Please explain your answer. _________________ I might have decided, or maybe not, that I should or shouldn't, depending on the issue or non-issue, to possibly share or not share, any thoughts, opinions, or facts (that might not be deemed factual by some), due to possible fear of any misinterpretation or retribution. https://christianhardmusic.niceboard.com/

| Never cared much for Deliverance and haven't listened to much Disciple.
So no vote from me. | |

| For me, "Big D" will always be Dudley Dursley. Of your choices though, gotta go with Deliverance since I've never heard of Disciple being called "the big D". | |

| Out of sheer number of albums owned and enjoyed, I will go with Disciple myself. I like the mid-era Deliverance but don't care for the first 3 speed metal albums. I wish they were not going back to that sound now, but I can wait for the Eraserhead album which is supposed to be in the "Learn" sound.
I've got way more albums that I enjoy by Disciple. Gotta go with them!

| Well, only partially divided. I enjoy both bands, but Disciple has a larger body of work that I enjoy. While they changed in style over the years, they haven't changed that drastically since "My Daddy Can Whip Your Daddy". They've mixed in other elements throughout the years but they still sound like Disciple.
With Deliverance, you have the speed metal years, and then the slower Bowie vocals years, and now we are back to the thrash. They have the same overall sound, but it comes off almost as two different bands. They sound so different that we will now have two bands: Deliverance and Eraserhead. Eraserhead will be the lineup of "Learn" doing music in that style while Deliverance will be a thrash band. I am already guessing that the debut Eraserhead will be my favorite of the two releases.
So, some may be divided over which they like, but I feel like many of us enjoy both. Some may just prefer one to the other on any given day.

At least with Jupiter VI, it had a different sound so they used a different name. You were not expecting Deliverance with this which is why I didn't mention it.

| For me the Big D has always been Deliverance. I have most of their discs and enjoy the bulk of it, especially the debut S/T release.
I only have two from Disciple. One of them I like, and the other is kinda meh. The one I like is a bit more speed/thrash.

oh, wait...I said Deliverance as well... ; ) I am just a year behind you and will still take Disciple over Deliverance any day. As I said earlier in the thread, they have a bigger body of work that I listen to. I only listen to the middle era of Deliverance and don't care for the early speed metal days or the return to it now.

What is a cool CD to start with? If you want to listen to the speed metal days, I'd say start off with Weapons of Our Warfare. If you're more into the Bowie-esque style, I'd go with Learn. While Stay of Execution is good album, they still had some thrash elements still. And if you're wanting something completely different, then check out What A Joke.
