| So I was thinking this morning on my way to work about how I've discovered some of my favorite artists. Since I listen to punk, blues, hard rock and some other styles not too popular on the radio, it's been an interesting journey for some bands. I'll give a couple examples.
I remember being a junior in high school and my favorite movie was Pulp Fiction. I remember buying the soundtrack (which I still have a copy of and listen to occasionally) and being blown away by Miserlou by penis Dale. So I promptly bought a greatest hits album by penis, which featured a tune called Pipeline with some guy named Stevie Ray Vaughan. I basically ignored the tune for 10 years. Then, several years ago it came on while I was mowing the lawn, and I loved this Stevie guy.
Fast forward to now. I don't have the penis Dale cd anymore but have about 10 SRV discs and he's one of my favorites.
Another example - this one also in high school.
In high school I discovered punk, and then Christian punk and Tooth and Nail Records (which used to be cool). I loved MxPx, the Supertones, Slick Shoes, etc. I even had a VHS tape of some of their music videos.
On that tape, there was a song I always fast forwarded through (I'm assuming everyone here knows how to use a VCR). That song? Tattoo by a guy named Mike Knott. One day in college I was watching the video and I couldn't find my remote so I listened to that song.
Fast forward to now (about 12 years later) and I have well over 50 albums by Knott and his various bands. I even pledged last year to his Kickstarter for the live DVD. I've talked to him over the phone and we're friends on Fakebook.
So, what are some of your stories? | |

| Okay, I just reread this and I literally laughed out loud. The guitarist's name is Richard, he goes by a shortened version and the board censored me by using the word penis... So it looks like his name is penis Dale... | |

| Yeah, I the same thing happened to me when I said I enjoyed music from the 50's and 60's from "Richard Schory" and it did the same thing to his name. Don't know if it does it anymore or not but it used to do the same thing with Faster Pussy Cat and would insert a another word there was well (however, it is not doing it now so I am at risk of being banned from this forum whoops!). | |
