PostSubject: A sad day for the alldat family   A sad day for the alldat family I_icon_minitimeFri May 20, 2016 3:38 pm

I think my Zune days are over.  My 120 GB Zune is giving me an error when I plug it in saying that my computer doesn't recognize it anymore.  I tried plugging up the Zune in my truck to see if it would charge that way.  That won't work either.  So, when the battery goes dead the next time, I will be saying goodbye to my favorite toy:  the 120 GB Zune.

I have just ordered a new player that has 16 GB of room and 64 GB expandable with a micro SD card.  I won't be my Zune, but it will keep all of my music off my phone.

Is Mrs Alldat going to make you a special dessert so you can cry over some pie (yes sometimes pie helps).

What is the new player you are getting? I've been using my phone for a player but it's too slow and a little cumbersome....so I might just be in the market for an MP3 player.

I like the look and how much music I can put on the FiiO players as they can take anywhere from one 128 GB card to 2 128 GB cards.  They are just so pricey.  For that money, I can buy a refurbished Zune.

I ordered an AGPtek 16 GB player with the ability to expand with a 64 GB card.  Combined, that will hold what I had on my Zune but with the inconvenience of having to change things out for new music.  I can always get another card and maybe do A-M on one and N-Z on the other.  It still won't be my beloved Zune.

With all the cell phones that accumulate in our house, I will never purchase another music player ever again. I've been using a Palm Pre phone (32GB) in the bathroom for shower music for about 6 years now. In my truck I use a phone my wife used to have, a Galaxy Note 2 (64 GB).

Seems a waste of a perfectly excellent Mp3 music player to just toss it in a drawer or trade it in to save 30 bucks or whatever.

I usually keep my previous phone just so if something happens to my current one.  If I couldn't replace my current phone easily, I can revert to my old one with Straight Talk just by moving my SIM and SD cards.  BOOM!  We're back in business.

I have WAY too much music, as do you, to just use 32 GB for my collection.  My Zune was 120 GB and I had most of it full without having everything I own on it.  So, a new player that holds so much more was cool to find.

What will I do with my Zune?  If I can get a couple of bucks on it, I may put it in the machine at Walmart where you can get cash for old electronics.  I don't see the point in keeping it.

I liked the look, but not the price, of the Pioneer Hi-Def Music Player.  Not only could you use any size micro SD cards, but it also had Bluetooth which would be awesome in my wife's car.  You would have had no wires to play my tunes through the stereo.  I just couldn't justify spending $699 on it.  The FiiO player was bad enough at $199.  The Bluetooth feature was cool, but it wasn't something that I felt I needed.  My truck doesn't have that capability with my aftermarket stereo.  So, I will just keep plugging into the aux or USB jacks on it.

I can't wait to get it and load it up!

I have tried to use a few different android phones for music players and with the expection of my HTC they wall worked like crap.  My HTC seems to be getting to it's "move like molasses" phase...and I'm not patient enough to put up with it as a music player and a phone at the same time.

The old Zune is really dead.  Without playing it, the battery is dead and the computer won't recognize it to charge it.  Thus, it is gone.

I will survive with a 30 GB Zune for a few days until the new player arrives on Wednesday.

I ordered the AGPtEK to start with.  After reading more about them, I just didn't like the sound of them.  They will only recognize 5,000 songs.  I have WAY more than that!  LOL  If not for that, it looks and works much like an original iPod without having to use iTunes.  You can, but you don't have to.

The new FiiO unit is supposed to recognize as many songs as I put in it.  I do know, however, to do a firmware update on it straight out of the box.  While it recommends two 128 GB cards, it will take 200 GB cards.  That's a ton of music if you have ripped it to 320 kbps or use AICC, FLAC, or WAV files.  It also is supposed to have a battery that will play for almost 70 hours on a 4 hour charge.  That's impressive.  I also ordered a faux-leather case for it like I had for my Zune.

Did you like my use of the Oxford comma?  lol!

I'm not willing to pay what they are asking for on the FiiO and I don't plan on loading anymore than 2000 to 4000 songs on it anyway so I will likely just get the 16GB ABPteKlmnop (whatever it's called).

To offset your use the "oxford comma" I completely didn't use any commas at all. Laughing

The FiiO player that I bought was $199.  The newest model is $699!

The Zune has given you may hours of listening to your favorite music.
Now it's time to find a new one.

I liked the MP# player of my BlackBerry the most.
The one iPhone is using I don't like.
So I only listen to music on my old BlackBerry.

I'm too cheap to even spend the $199. Especially given that I will own it for three months and then break it by dropping it.Laughing

Firmware was simple to do once I read the instructions.  It was fast, too!

OK, here is my review of the FiiO X5 that I bought.

It is heavier than my cell phone.  For you younger folks, the device will probably be too cumbersome.  However, I won't be running my battery down on my phone using it for a player and can store way more music than what I can humanly listen to.  LOL  For those of us who lived with giant boom boxes and then had Sony Walkmans or similar cassette players, this doesn't seem like a big deal.

Setup takes a little bit.  You have to change settings to get the player to return to the same song as where you left off.  The shuttle wheel doesn't really move icons when the wheel clicks until you do the firmware update.  Then, its perfect!

The unit has built in EQ settings.  So, if this song needs a bit more bass or less, you can adjust it.  I set mine on the "rock" preset and am loving it.

It has a space for 2 SD cards.  The manufacturer recommends two 128 GB cards.  However, reviews by others state that they have used 200 and even 500 GB cards and the player read them just fine.  If I fill up 256 GBs of music, I will look into that.  LOL

All in all, I think this is a nice addition to the alldat family and eases my sadness of losing my beloved Zune.
