Well gang, it's time for me to ask for recommendations again...
I always hesitate to do this because no band sounds exactly like someone else but I do have lots of secular music that I enjoy musically but lyrically, I can't listen to them much. anyway, to the list.
What Christian band sounds similar to:
Type O Negative (this is a big one. never found anyone and I love their sound. also, be warned if you've never listened to them.) Pantera (not the early stuff, post-Cowboys From Hell) Metallica (specifically the first four albums - Kill 'Em All to ...And Justice for All.) Alice in Chains

Type O Negative and Alice in Chains have relatively unique sounds. I don't think there is much like them in the Christian metal world.
Possibly Hero, for the Type O Neg, for a somewhat gothic sound with a somewhat deeper gruff vocal delivery (but not at all a carbon copy...more symphonic). Candlemass posted a video once from Atomic Opera that sounded quite AIC like, but I don't think all of their stuff sounds like that.

Sadly, you're right.
Type O's last album wasn't quite so bad because Peter Steele (vocals and lyrics) became a believer just before. But the albums before that, lyrically, were horrible. But yeah, musically, they're very unique.
I checked out that Hero video. Not quite what I'm looking for but still pretty good. I'll have to check them out.

I did not know that about Peter Steele! Very cool! Wow that is awesome to hear.
Gosh I have no idea though... I don't think there are many Christian bands that'd be comparable to any of those... There's tons of Christian thrash metal so maybe you'd be able to find something Metallica-esque. I think there are a couple "groove metal" Christian bands that might be comparable to Pantera but you could start here:
