Newsboys - Love Riot
I saw them in concert again last night and decided to get the newest album. I hope it has the same instrumentation they used in the show.

Some time ago
Marius Danielsen's Legend of Valley Doom - Legend of Valley Doom Part 1 Included a demo CD of the mastermind's band, Darkest Sins. Not really interested, but might listen to it later.

TFK - Set It Off
I got this used for $0.36($3.99 shipping) via Amazon! Just arrived today ... opened it up ... IT'S SIGNED! Signed items don't mean squat to me, as they typically mean more to the person that got it signed (unless, of course, it was someone uber-famous). But still, a signed CD for only thirty six cents!? Super stoked, I am!

What do you think of it? I know Ronnie from Signum Regis is involved and he seems to have pretty good taste haha.

It took a few spins, but it grew on me. I love Herbie's voice, but I'm not so keen on Olaf's. Musically it is very good, with excellent guitar riffs and solos and just enough keys to be considered symphonic. It is disappointing that the bass is all but missing from the mix; with proper equalization you can find Ronnie, but at "normal" volumes and balancing his work might as well have been done by a computer.
I was a little nervous about the lyrical content. Ronnie told me on FB that while his brother wrote much of it, I might not like Olaf's songs. I can see what he meant, as Olaf is definitely anti-church and perhaps even anti-God, but there's nothing offensive; I hear worse in the occasional IM song. ( Yep ... I said that. )
One thing I don't particularly care for is the range of styles. They seem to swing from symphonic to melodic to power and even to almost classic NWOBM. I'd rather a band pick a style and stick with it, at least for the length of the CD. If you want to experiment then put out an EP or something. I do, however, looooooove (is there enough o's there to get my point across?) the trio work in the first song: Herbie, Olaf, and some mezzo soprano singer. I really enjoy operatic symphonic metal, a la Epica, Tarja, Nightwish, etc.
I have to add that I applaud Ronnie for taking part and give him credit for surviving. According to the liner notes the album is dedicated to their bass player that died of cancer a few years ago. That means Ronnie was more-or-less Symphonity's Jason Newsted, brought in to fill a vacancy that no-one wanted filled. Maybe there wasn't any drama there, but it's none-the-less an unenviable position for Ronnie.

Right on! Thanks for the insight on lyrics too. I really enjoy power metal but never got too into symphonic metal so I'm not sure if this is quite for me or not. I'll check it out.

I hate it when folks upload a complete album to YT, but in this case ... There really is more power to symphonic for this CD, though I've never heard anything by this band before. When I first got the CD I was a bit confused by the word symphonic on the cover, as to me they sound a lot like Sinbreed. However, there's enough keys work here and there to qualify as symphonic I guess. Also, before today I mostly listened to this CD in my truck, but right now I'm listening with my Sony headphones, which do a great job bringing out the bass, and Ronnie's definitely there, though I still say the mix could have drawn him out better.

Listening now! Pretty good stuff. I think it might be a little too "symphonic"/dramatic for my tastes but I really dig the power metal elements.

They didn't hit big at all here in the U.S., and I don't think I've even heard of any of their songs...but I will never forget Kim Mitchell's "Go For a Soda", cool song with a hilariously goofy video.

I was very pleasantly surprised to find a package in the mail for me last night. A "not so anonymous" benefactor surprised me with a copy of the newest Eden's Realm cd! Very cool, another album I can scratch off of my wants list.
