In light of my Mother recently being hit by a drunk driver, totaling her car. (She's ok, he went to jail) I want to share this video.
Warning- Very graphic and disturbing.

Graphic indeed, so much so I doubt they would even show it on television in the U.S. Should be mandatory viewing for anyone under the age of 90.
Does anyone know if they have used something this graphic in the states?

For sure. If you're going to get drunk, be smart about it.

I hesitated putting it here at first, then thought - nah, some things are just necessary... and unfortunately sometimes our best impressions are made with graphic disturbing methods.
I remember back when I was in high school, they had a driver's ed movie called Red Asphault - NO re-enactments there... it was very disturbing and REAL. Even showed clean up crews using a flat snow shovel to scoop up unidentifiable body entrails - it was GROSS !!! But had a serious impact on all of us.

They have since stopped showing that (probably from complaining parents...whiners!) - but kids need to be scared straight... or they're just NOT gonna get the severity of the power of 2 tons of steel in their control and the effects of intoxication.

I think I remember something very similar in my drivers ed class too. But they would never have shown it on television.

The UK did a great one not too long ago about texting and driving (possibly a more common cause of accidents these days even than drinking and driving)

I used to drink and drive. I'm so grateful no one was hurt. I shouldn't be alive right now honestly, as drunk as I was a few of the times (and I know without a doubt it was the prayers of a caring mother that spared me)... you tell yourself you're okay to drive, you're better than other people at driving while inebriated... it's a sad state to be in. I remember one of the times I was driving back to my mom's (I had moved back in with her after my divorce) I was trying to hurry and get home so I could throw up... I dashed out of the car and ran to the edge of the yard and puked my guts out. What a terrible way to live.
I was not living for God at all at the time, but when I came home He delivered me from (8+ years of) alcoholism and I haven't looked back. I'm totally cool with just having a drink or two on the weekend now, and planting my happy butt on the couch (or at the computer).
Thanks for sharing. This is indeed an important message.

Drinking and driving I have never done. Sadly, I have been known to read and even write texts going down the road. I have pulled way back on it, but I have not completely quit. I need to use the voice to text feature if I am going to do that.

Texting while driving is actually TWICE as dangerous (in terms of reaction times) as drunken driving.

The showed one, less graphic but still pretty intense, to my kids in drivers ed. I'm not against it but most people, and especially the young automatically think that only happens to someone else.

I've never done any drinking and driving, let alone drinking. Nor have I texted/called at the wheel. I have used my phone camera while driving, which is also pretty dangerous, although I haven't done so recently.
Being sleep-deprived and driving is also very dangerous.

Indeed it is. It was on of the leading causes of death for active duty military members when I was in the service. I had more than one friend who crashed their car because they fell asleep at the wheel.

I have extreme difficulty falling asleep in a moving vehicle… last time I did (I wasn't at the wheel of course), I was under a 6-hour jetlag. Even though I was extremely tired, I didn't want to sleep, because it would mean I would miss scenery. So although it's extremely unlikely I fall asleep at the wheel, I know I have the potential to do so… Driving tired, in of itself, is dangerous, though, and I do it a lot more than I should.
