Supernal Endgame review at Angelic Warlord Empty
PostSubject: Supernal Endgame review at Angelic Warlord   Supernal Endgame review at Angelic Warlord I_icon_minitimeTue Sep 30, 2014 10:14 pm

This past weekend I updated Angelic Warlord to include a review of the new Supernal Endgame album, "Touch The Sky - Volume II".  Following is the link: http://www.angelicwarlord.com/reviews/s/supernalendgame14.html

Right now I am at work on a review of the Tykkus compilation and plan to have it online this coming weekend.  Other upcoming reviews include the new album from Mike Florio ("Reconcile"), Stryper's "Live At The Whiskey", Atkins May Project and a new independent band named Sign of Jonah. So it looks like I have a busy fall ahead!

Thanks,

Andy

1. I love Supernal Endgame - very cool sound.
2. I wish the Tykkus album was on CD

I can't even seem to find that Atkins May Project album for sale anywhere.  Kind of wondering if it was a CD only/Europe only release kinda thing.

Currently it is available via the bands labels website: http://www.gonzomultimedia.com/product_details/15720/Atkins_May_Project-Empire_of_Destruction.html

I am hoping other retailers pick it up for distribution in the near future.

The Tykkus EP from 2005 entitled Umlaut was released on CD.  The recent compilation Hystorykküs Maximüs includes 25 songs so it would have to be a double CD release.

I agree with your sentiments about Supernal Endgame in that I am a big fan of 'prog'.  Another artist worth checking out is Mike Florio and his new album "Reconcile".

10-15 minute songs?  Ludicrous! I have yet to hear a song that I actually thought NEEDED to be that long to convey whatever meaning or emotion the artist wants to share.  I will probably pass on this just for that reason alone.

I know--I have musical ADD.

So I guess this means Neal Morse wont be making a guest appearance on the next Mission of One album...  LOL.  It is amazing how each persons musical tastes differ...

What about songs with many musical themes, not just songs that are long and repetitive, such as the two or three 20-minute pieces Rush assembled?

I zone out.  End that song so I know what we're doing.  To me, that would be like trying to force yourself to watch all 11 hours of the original LOTR trilogy in one sitting with no opening or closing credits.

I've done a LOTR marathon of the original versions, but not of the extended (Twisted Evil). And toward the middle, I did get a bit tired, sure, but we're talking about hours, not minutes.

It's alright, though. We're all different that way. I'm not often in the mood for long pieces myself.

I've just not heard anything really other than one long song by John Elefante that really worked for me.  Most longer songs, even ones with multiple pieces or themes inside one track, I just end up tuning out due to me getting lost in it.  I can't seem to focus on where in the song we are.  I like the typical intro/verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/lead break/chorus/outro method of songwriting.  It works and makes for a catchy tune.  You don't have to have a bridge, but if you are, that's the best place for it.  Keep the whole thing radio friendly and under 5 minutes.  It's a formula that sells well with most people.

Agreed, I would rather get it as a legal download as I'm trying to keep from adding more cds to the heaping mound in my closet!
