| Each era has it's own catch phrases. The 20s 30s 40s and 50s are of particular interest to me.
(the 60s 70s and 80s terms are still somewhat used on occasion- "Far Out", "Radical", "Out of this world", "Groovy".... ok maybe not groovy..) Please help me add to this list of words, terms and phrases that are never used in today's society:
Preposterous Behoove Phooey That's Swell Buffoon Trollop Confound It (in reference to 15 minutes after ____): "Half Past ___" Drat
How about you, you got any ? Perhaps you remember your grandparent saying, or an old black and white movie/tv show ?

| Preposterous is still alive and kicking.
Daggnabbit Monkeyshines (heard this the other day from some guy who was like 140. I had to look it up) I think the use of "jazz" other than to refer to the music (such as "he's got the jazz")

| Haha, I still use Lollygagging too. I think some terms get passed down and continue on down through the ages - Like "cool"... that's timeless.
I'm looking for many of the terms you all have been listing, ones that are NOT in use except amongst 75 year old and up.

| I still say half past... But that's because I have a speech impediment and have a hard time getting the word thirty out. And I still say drat cuz I think it's funny!
My grandma used to say "oh my lands!" "fiddle" and "egads!" Actually mom still says "Egads!"
I was having an argument with my mom and she said "egads!" And I'm like "seriously mom 'shads'" and then we both burst out laughing!

Haha dang I say "drat" all the time! Though folks tend to make fun of me for it haha. I used the term "mosey" as in "let's mosey on" and my housemate at the time couldn't stop making fun of me for it!

| See ! These old terms are great ! or should I say "swell" ! We need to bring them back into daily usage. I love watching an old B&W movie or TV show and hearing those old sayings. | |
