| To put music on my phone I need to rip CDs. I always order my CDs on band - album title - song number - song name. When I have put albums on my phone I often notice that the way how I order my music is not the order I see the albums back on my phone. Sometimes I see two different maps of one album one with 9 songs and an other map with one song. Some bands are listed as "unknown". while I have named the band and so. Do you have the same problem when you rip CDs for your phone or MP3 player? Do you have an idea how I can solve this problem? | |

| I have had a similar problem with one of my older mp3 players. I am not really sure how to fix it. All of the music I have ripped to MP3 I used Windows Media Player and input all the song/band info by hand when it doesn't already know it. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... | I use Windows Media Player too. Maybe Windows Media Player is the problem? | |

| Windows Media Player is a great program but it has it's limitations.
That being said, it's probably your tags. Every mp3 has tags (you can google it for a more detailed explanation) but basically it's information that helps your phone/iPod/mp3 player "read" what the song is. To fix it, you could (again) google something like "How do I fix mp3 tags". Short version - you'll have to go into Windows Explorer (assuming you don't use a Mac) and go to each individual album and change them by hand.

This is what I have to do for many of them. The all get titled "Track 1" "Track 2" etc., and I just end up going in and changing them by hand. I will say this, if you want to add album art to the cd in WMP, do it before you change any of the other information. Many times I have had WMP reset all of the info I input by hand when I add the album art after I made the other changes. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| Use http://www.mp3tag.de/en/
to make sure your tags are correct. Some players ignore filenames and just use tags, some do the opposite.

| GraceNote's getting better and better these days at recognizing Christian releases (even though they still put the genre to bands like Whitecross as "Gospel")... I remember a few years ago practically none of my Christian albums were recognized by GraceNote. | |

I've noticed that some of the Christian Hard Rock and Metal that I load up through WMP gets labeled as "Religious". Seriously "religious"? How is "religious" a genre? What's next "atheist" or "agnostic" music?....maybe we will get a new genre called "irreligious". _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| Also don't use WMP to rip and manage your music!

| Some computer-based music players let you tag from filename and vice versa. This allows you to keep the two in sync. MediaMonkey is one such player. | |

I have noticed the same. I've just seen Disciple and Saint are labeled as Gospel.

| If it helps...
there are a couple of different versions of ID3 tags out there, and sometimes programs can't read the version being used by your mp3.
Anyway, I use a program called TagScanner that gives you a TON of options for tags and file names...not only can you edit any field (including the picture) but if you ripped a whole cd the program can auto set the tags direct from an online db. And it's free.
