| Nerd -
an intelligent but single-minded person obsessed with a nonsocial hobby or pursuit: Example-a computer nerd.
That is taken from Dictionary.com. I sort of agree with it, but would also add someone without great social skills. Unfortunately, identifying nerds is harder to do today as shows like Glee and Big Band Theory have made it "cool" to be "a nerd".
I probably am a nerd. Rather than being into a nonsocial hobby or pursuit, I think one would have to be involved in several of these to be considered nerdy. I don't do sports, work on cars, or hunt like the traditional male and am often not too comfortable around those kinds of guys. I am a geocaching, Christian rocking, superhero loving, Star Trek/Wars geek who prefers to read, shop with the wife, or sip a latte. To most people, I am nerdy.
To be honest, though, that used to bother me. Nowadays, I just really don't care and embrace it. I like what I like and if that excludes me from being with some other people, then so be it. I can socialize at church, geocaching events, or Star Trek conventions. _________________ I might have decided, or maybe not, that I should or shouldn't, depending on the issue or non-issue, to possibly share or not share, any thoughts, opinions, or facts (that might not be deemed factual by some), due to possible fear of any misinterpretation or retribution. https://christianhardmusic.niceboard.com/

My Dad and oldest brother were/are mechanics, but I never caught on. I learned how to change my own oil/filter/air filter/plugs/ etc... but can't even do those anymore cuz of my back. Like Chris, I'd rather hang with my wife, work on HTML and JAVA (I think that qualifies as nerdhood), organize my music collection, and play records. I HATE social "anything". I only do social things cuz of my wife, if not for her, I'd avoid most social conventions. Guess I'm either a nerd, or a sociopath

| I'm nerdy in the following ways: - Knowing a lot about road networks - Listening to '80s Christian metal (and being a teenager ) - Speaking several languages and being into etymology - Having a lot of interest in theology or Θεολογία (I think) - Knowing a lot of music theory - Being relatively smart with computers And of course just being DBF counts for a lot | |

Well now...Hockey and carrying/shooting handguns? I'll keep these things in mind when you want to shoot or need your car afro-engineered...lol sabidoo is NOT a nerd, he's just plain old retarded.

| I think I'm a nerd, but my wife doesn't think so. I'm an engineer and I wear polo shirts and dockers to work (but no pocket protector...nobody uses those). I don't dance very well and I'm not at all up with what is hip. I am a bit of a black sheep in my circle of engineer associates. I'm prior military (paratrooper) which is something I almost never see among engineers. But I am also a total homebody. I would much rather stay home and read, watch a movie or putz around the house than go do anything social. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

sabidoo is NOT a nerd, he's just plain old retarded. You forget--my wifey is the bigger hockey fan. If I miss a game, I don't care. I missed half the season last year before watching a game on TV. This year, the league has been locked out and I really haven't missed it. I am not sports obsessed like most guys. Most guys we know are not casual shooters--they are hunters. I don't care to deer hunt (that's the biggest obsession of hunting here) or anything else, really. I go for weeks without shooting, so you can't really call that they typical male hunters of our area. Trust me--most folks around here would think having a couple of guns and not being a hunter is weird.

| Well, since I love geocaching, listen to Christian hard rock people tell me I'm a nerd. The fact I love to do things other people don't understand make me feel I'm a nerd too. | |

| When I think of a nerd I remember the movie Revenge of the Nerds. That is definitely not me. I would be considered more of a geek. While I don't mind/enjoy staying home ,reading, being a homebody I also tend to enjoy getting out and being social to an extent. | |

| You mean King Of The Nerds? I did see the first episode. I am not sure that I am a nerd anymore. I have nerdy tendencies but I am not that bad. Of course, remember that it has been shown over and over that "reality tv" is staged and often scripted. These people might not even be that nerdy. _________________ I might have decided, or maybe not, that I should or shouldn't, depending on the issue or non-issue, to possibly share or not share, any thoughts, opinions, or facts (that might not be deemed factual by some), due to possible fear of any misinterpretation or retribution. https://christianhardmusic.niceboard.com/ | |

That's kind of funny, because I'm sort of the same. I'm not in to socializing that much. Maybe all us type of people should meet up... but if we did make a date to meet up I don't think we'd want to go, and we'd rather stay at home making sure that Bride - Show No Mercy is placed before Bride - Silence Is Madness! Now I wonder about myself. I like graphic novels, heavy metal, guitars, gaming, reading, watching movies (especially 80s brat pack style and science fiction movies), and I don't care to be around people that much...thats why I shop during the day on weekdays. Hmmm.... |

Yup, I will do my grocery shopping at 8 or 9pm on a weekday night just to avoid being at a grocery store on the weekends. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| I do my grocery shopping online. I don't meet anyone that way! Fundy (if the truth be told it's more to do with the kids picking up everything they see in the shop, but now we're getting used to doing our shopping in 1/2 online rather than 2 hours at the shop!) _________________ My Christian Metal Website......... | I never heard of buying food online before...our stores here must not offer it. (its hard enough just to get them to bag it at the big stores here) .............. - Quote :

Me and my wife are retired now...that really changed everything...we shop, eat in restaurants and live by our own schedule now...we sleep till noon and stay up till 2 or 3 in the morning everyday if we want. |

| It's a huge thing in Europe to buy groceries by phone or onlineā¦ if I'm not mistaken, my grandparents do it. It doesn't cost much, if at all, and it's a huge helper if one has reduced mobility. | |

| Amazon will deliver groceries in our area of the state, but you have to be within so many miles of their distribution center. There are a few other companies who do it locally as well. You have to live fairly close to a decent sized city though to be within the "service zone" _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."
