| Anyone excited about The Hobbit. At work quite a few of us are really looking forward to seeing it, and next Friday nine of us are going to see it. Should be good!

| I was excited until I found out that they cut the story into THREE films. It isn't a trilogy. They are just going to have the story plod along in my opinion. I don't know if I will see these or not. _________________ I might have decided, or maybe not, that I should or shouldn't, depending on the issue or non-issue, to possibly share or not share, any thoughts, opinions, or facts (that might not be deemed factual by some), due to possible fear of any misinterpretation or retribution. https://christianhardmusic.niceboard.com/ | |

| My son is really looking forward to it, and I am as well.
I am a little worried about Jackson turning it into 3 movies. I mean it made sense with the Lord of the Rings story because the novel was something like 470 thousand words, but The Hobbit is only around 95 thousand words....certainly doesn't seem like the book needs 3 movies. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... | Same here… I can't see how they can split it in three. My friends are excited for it, but I don't know if I'll go and see it right away.

| As far as I understand the three movies will be The Hobbit and all the appendices put together, so it shouldn't just be the one novel. I was worried about that too, but I love the Tolkien world so I'm happy. I actually wished he did The Lord Of The Rings in six parts rather than three, for it was written in six sections.
"According to Jackson, the third film would make extensive use of the appendices that Tolkien wrote to expand the story of Middle-Earth (published in the back of The Return of the King)"
However, I'm a bit of an idiot, 'cause even if all three turn out to be rubbish I'll still buy them on DVD as I'm a completist!

| Saw "The Hobbit" yesterday afternoon and really enjoyed it. They got all the "right" aspects "right", including the buffoon stone trolls, fat Goblin king and riddle contest between Bilbo and Gollum (which was brilliant, BTW).
Only thing I did not like is that the movie dragged just a bit at first. For example, it takes roughly 35 to 40 minutes to get through the "unexpected party" with the dwarves and to get the journey started.
Pros and cons with going three movies. With three movies the directors can be thorough as they want and not cut out key portions, such as what they did with LOTR. Personally, I thought two movies would be sufficient so I am looking forward to how close they cover things.

| There had better not be any director's cuts or extended editions with the Hobbit trilogy! _________________ "If you are not concerned about your neighbor's salvation, you should be concerned about your own."

Just came across this which shows the possibility of it happening. http://blastr.com/2012/12/mckellens-favorite-hobbit.php - Quote :
After expanding The Hobbit from two films to a full trilogy, you'd think there wouldn't be much left for Peter Jackson to cut out for extended versions. Turns out he still shot too much, and a scene left on the cutting-room floor was among Sir Ian McKellen's (Gandalf) favorites from the first installment. So what was it?
On his production blog, McKellen recently posted about "some parts of The Hobbit [he] enjoyed most," and noted the film wasn't always so lacking in female characters. J.R.R. Tolkien's original book is famously heavy with male players, though Jackson did his best to insert a bit of femininity into the proceedings.
It seems one of McKellen's favorite scenes that got dropped from the final cut of An Unexpected Journey featured a female hobbit, which should show up on the Blu-ray release: <blockquote>"One thing Middle-earth is short on is the feminine. It's a pity, because a female dwarf would have been fun. Bilbo's mother, the "famous Belladonna Took," will make a brief appearance in the extended DVD/Blu-ray edition but in the film itself, thank goodness for the ravishing re-appearance of Cate Blanchett's serene Galadriel. She is so sweet to Gandalf, countering the sinister presence of a mournful Saruman at the conference table. Actually Christopher Lee wasn't with the rest of us, filming in New Zealand. His contribution was shot back home in London and then sliced into the scene, though you can't tell, of course."
Yes, a female dwarf would've been pretty cool, but we're most interested to meet Bilbo's butt-kicking mom. It's also fairly interesting that Christopher Lee's footage wasn't filmed with the others, because it seemed absolutely seamless in the final edit. </blockquote>

| So I saw this yesterday… great movie, well produced. I think they dwelled on the riddle scene a bit long, though, but that's probably just me. | |

If I remember correctly, the riddle scene is longer in the book.

| Alright I am taking all of my kids to see this the day after Christmas. I haven't seen a movie in the theater for over a year. I gotta ask one thing, do they sing half-a-dozen of those campy songs in the movie? I have to confess that I got so tired of those reading that book (many years ago) that I just skipped over the last few. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| Ok, just came back from taking my wife to go see the Hobbit. It was done very well. I liked the touches of humor, and the songs were actually quite good and added to the film. My children are going to love it. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| Interesting to hear that there'll be an extended edition! I thought there would be but couldn't see how they'd find enough material. Now I know there is I'm gonna be waiting for the extended versions before buying them. Don't want to fall foul of the buying to early shenanigans that happened last time!

Tim you crack me up ! I have no one to go see it with. My wife has ZERO interest in these kinds of movies and she's my best friend I do everything with, sooooo, maybe next time my son-in-law comes to visit, we'll watch it on DVD (should be out by then) I remember watching the cartoon when I was a kid. Thought it was way cool.
