| SO... a few weeks ago i got the dreaded blue screen of death on my desktop. i lost EVERYTHING, including my book manuscript.
fortunately, i did have a laptop that i was barely using. i'd saved my book work on a thumb drive a couple of weeks earlier, so i was able to retrieve most of my work [WHEW!!].
anyway. i'm back. what have ya'll been doing?

| Wow, sorry to hear about the demise of your computer, but glad that you were able to save at least most of your work. Good to see you back. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| Ouch ! I have lost MANY things from my early PCs. When I finally could afford it, (over time) I've bought 5 external hard drives and have backed up everything I have 5 times ! A little paranoid, but hey, it's worth it.
I worked on a restoration of a 1972 photo for my mother-in-law and worked on it for about 3 weeks - an hour here, 2 hours there... then it happened. Crash-ola ! This was back when our family only had one home PC. I swore I had backed it up, but after going through ALL my back up CDs I couldn't find it. A very sad time indeed. I feel your pain.

| I'm still not used to this laptop. I'd much rather have my desktop with the mouse and all that. It seems like I'm forever touching something wrong on this thing, pages disappearing, text randomly goes from a reasonably normal size to something I have to use the Hubble telescope to read... then back again. Really sensitive keyboard, apparently, AND DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE SPEAKER! UUUUGGGHHHH!!
BUT, I'm happy to have it. I can get my work done and I can still get to the pages I frequent. All is well.

| My husband taught me to make back ups to avoid things like this.
I seldom use a laptop. | |

| You can probably hook up your monitor, speakers and mouse to the laptop and use it in place of your old tower. | |

| umm, having a blue screen doesn't mean your data is gone!
depends on what caused the blue screen.

| My computer didn't start properly this morning. After mucking about with it for a few minutes it's finally fired up. First thing I'm doing right now is backing up all my files on to the external drive. You never know what will happen!
