I believe that's a bad word on a Hard Rock board, but that's why it's here in "All other forms...."
I grew up with a mega-diverse exposure to music. I soaked in music from as far back as I can remember, from my mom's 50s and 60s LPs of Elvis to the Troggs, then my brothers 8 tracks of AcDc, the Cars, U2, Nugent, Pink Floyd, etc. Then there was the radio, always on in my room listening to the latest pop songs played on Casey Kasem's top 40 coast to coast.
This brings me to new wave. When in high school, I was a "metal-head" always saying that New Wave was "gay" and anyone who listened to it was lame. No one knew I was a closet new waver too... Metal and rock always came first, but I still liked Simple Minds, U2, Dexy's, Duran, Wang Chung, Howard Jones, The Cars and many more. I'm secure enough in my 40s to admit this now.
Today, there are many "New Wave" Christian bands that I've been discovering that were pretty good and had enough potential to be radio worthy, if it wasn't for their message. The Prayer Chain, Able Cain, Sincerely Paul, The Cynics, Code of Ethics, Imitators, Modern Mission, The Omega Band, Talking Drums, Vector, Walk on Water to mention a few.
Did you ever like any New Wave ? If so, which bands/songs stick out ? Do you like any Christian new wave ?

When I was a teenager, I liked quite a few of the new wave bands you mentioned from the secular scene. However, upon arriving in the Christian music scene, I haven't really heard any new wave that I really liked. I kinda like the first two Mad At the World CDs as they were more new wave then, but they are not big players for me.

Most of the new wave that I like would have been from the Christian scene, not secular. Some of that stuff was okay too, but why waste money on Simple Minds when there are Judas Priest albums to get?
In Christian music, there were less choices, so I did listen to bands like Vector, Malcolm and the Mirrors, ATF, etc... Servant's last album, Swimming In A Human Ocean, had strong new wave tendencies, and Rez also had new wave influences on albums like Mommy, DMZ and Hostage. I still like a lot of that stuff.

Wow! I love new wave music. I didn't listen to it much in the 80s but in the last few years I rediscovered it and have bought a lot of old new wave albums. I am still exploring Christian new wave bands but have found a few that are pretty cool. I dig code of ethics and I like some of the synth/pop new wave as well.

Does anyone know of any christian bands that sound like the Cults "Love" album. I remember when that came out they were considered new wave. Here is an example for those who are not familiar...

For suggesting that Barnabas was new wave.

Was never into the Cult, but listening to the examples you gave, I hear a lot of early 77s and the Choir in there.

I loved most of the Cult's early output, but have to confess to not hearing much of any band (secular or Christian) that truly sounds like their strange mix of new wave, pop, blues, and hard rock.

I used to hear a ton of new-wave stuff in the 80's (as if you could get away from it) and I actually liked quite a bit of it (Duran Duran, Simple Minds, The Fixx etc). But I have to confess that I have heard very little of what the Christian musicians were doing with that sound. I did hear some of the first MATW albums and didn't really care for that.

I only listened to secular new wave when the Simple Minds are a new wave band.

One of the first groups i think about with New Wave is Crumbacher. Never did have any of their discs but heard quite a bit thru a friend. I also really like U2, Code of Ethics, and a few others.

You've inspired me to pull out my dusty Crumbacher collection. Man, there's some good stuff in their albums !

The Cult, Electric, definitely NOT new wave. Just a great ROCK record. I know The Knack always fell into that new wave group but they were straight ahead rock and did not use the keyboards like everyone else from that era. The Knack had some great tunes, the first two albums are great.

I actually enjoy Rez's experimentation into new wave on DMZ, Hostage and Between Heaven and Hell. Beyond that, it's secular because I've never taken the time to look into Christian new wave and to be honest, I don't own any.
But, I enjoy the daker stuff - The Cure, Depeche Mode, Bauhaus...
