the new Menchen...

A few announcements as the new Menchen approaches.

1: The title of the album has been changed from Electric Saints to In The Light. I don't know why, but it's been changed. Here's the artwork, which is pretty much the same as the old one. Designed by Alonso Espinoza.

2: Bill Menchen has begun mixing the album. It should be a matter of days before it gets released as a download.

3: This won't be released on Retroactive Records immediately. Bill is doing a limited 100-copy run of CDs sometime soon, and then we'll see what happens.

Not yet. Bruce has a deal with someone, somewhere, and we'll find out someday. For now, everyone should know it's available for download.

If I buy the downloads, then I am not going to rebuy the CDs.

I see Andy's posted this on Angelic Warlord. Aren't we all excited for this release?

So… the only line-up change from the previous Menchen (as in, Red Rock) is that Tony Franklin has been replaced by Bruce Menchen and Rod Reasner on bass. It has a sound that totally differs from the previous one.

Trivia: This album began in 1993-1994 when Ken Redding joined Rev Seven for a spell. 8 of the 12 songs here came from then (the others being Rev Seven and Redeemer "covers"). As a result, this album sounds like Rev Seven more than Menchen. Group photo from Way Back Then.

I'll be watching when this comes out on Amazon. I'm thinking I am going to get this and DTS in MP3 format to save storage space for the CD and to save a little $$$.

I went ahead and just got both the Menchen and DTS downloads. The Menchen is good, but the song tempos are very similar so there isn't much variation here. Also, Tony Franklin's bass work is missed here. The songs are well performed, though. This isn't the best work that Bill Menchen has done, but it is a worthy addition to the coolection.

I'll have to get back to you on DTS after I hear it.

What's your favourite song from In The Light?

Favorite song? I can't say that I really have one. Most of these songs are the same tempo, Ken is singing in a lower register most of the time, and the bass is buried in the mix. The songs are ok, but most of the songs lack a big hook to grab you. This, to me, is one of the most lackluster discs Bill has done. That opinion might change after a few listens, but right now, I am not a fan of this disc.

First I will listen to the samples before I decide to buy the MP3s.
Is "Death To Sin" the better CD of this two Menchens?

Both are solid. Just listen to some samples and make your decision on that--not on my review. I know we have similar tastes, but they are not always the same, Vonnie. This could be your album of the year whereas it might not make my list at all. If the samples make you think this is a worthy addition to your coolection, then go for it.

I just thought I'd clarify that Dead To Sin is Bruce Menchen and not Bill Menchen. (Bill did a solo for DTS though)

I haven't heard either one. DTS sounds like Stryper and Menchen sounds like typical Bill M.

Listened to samples of "In The Light"and the DTS.
For now I'll go for DTS.
I will listen again tomorrow.
Sometimes music has to grow for me, that means I have to listen more than one time.

I hate it that I bought the downloads and now they are putting out the CDs. That kinda sucks.

I told you they were putting CDs out eventually… I think, at least. This is a limited-edition (100 discs_ sleeve-style CD.

Haven't bought this CD.

I like the music but I do not care much for the singers voice..so I will pass on this album.

I'm going whole-hog on this CD. The whole band is signing it (including Bruce and Ken), and Bill's including an autographed pick, and Robert's including an autographed stick (for which I will have to pay).
