| Anyone heard of this rap/grunge group? They were nominated for a Juno this year. I got to see them on Thursday at a local club. They can sure put on a show!
The bassist gave me an autographed pick, so if I ever need to use a pick I'll start with that.

| They played No Plan B at their gig on Thursday. I didn't record it. But, it was pretty good. "Impossible" is the only song that actually stuck in my head, because I see that music video all the time. | |

Never....never.....NEVER use something like an autographed pick to play with. Keep that for inspiration. I use a pick all the time. When I started playing, my favorite bass players were from Motley Crue, Twisted Sister, and AC/DC. They all used picks with their playing. So, I thought I had to as well. Now, I use one all the time except for slower songs that need more sustain. Back to Manafest, he's pretty good for a rapper. _________________ I might have decided, or maybe not, that I should or shouldn't, depending on the issue or non-issue, to possibly share or not share, any thoughts, opinions, or facts (that might not be deemed factual by some), due to possible fear of any misinterpretation or retribution. | I can pull off AC/DC songs like TNT without a pick. In fact, I can pull off a lot of stuff without a pick. (I've been told that picks are except for extreme metal) Back to Manafest … yep, he's OK. He did a freestyle with random objects from our pockets. It was funny.

| I could care less if using a pick is the right or wrong way to play my basses. As long as you're comfortable with your technique, then it's okay. That's how I play, and I've been doing it for over 20 years. I don't feel like learning to do it another way now. _________________ I might have decided, or maybe not, that I should or shouldn't, depending on the issue or non-issue, to possibly share or not share, any thoughts, opinions, or facts (that might not be deemed factual by some), due to possible fear of any misinterpretation or retribution. | I have a Bride pic, but this pick is so thin that I never use it.
I always use a pic for playing on my guitar.

| Indeed, a guitar is different from a bass. The Manafest show had a guitarist too, of course. | |

I always use a pic for playing on my guitar. Most guitarists like those thin picks. They are great for speed. Most people use a pick on their guitars. That's normal. Using a pick on a bass is less normal, but there are people that do it. I'm even more dependent on picks with bass as I switch back and forth from bass to guitar and back again. I just use a nice medium pick on both. _________________ I might have decided, or maybe not, that I should or shouldn't, depending on the issue or non-issue, to possibly share or not share, any thoughts, opinions, or facts (that might not be deemed factual by some), due to possible fear of any misinterpretation or retribution. | I just played for about two hours, intermittently. The left index hurts the most (I was bending the string).
I think we need to start a "bass/guitar" thread!

| I tended to use heavy or extra heavy picks, but I play with the rounded edge not the tip and I use fairly heavy strings as well. The lead guitarist in my old church band grew his thumbnail out and used it as a pick and then used his other fingers at the same time....he could strum with his thumb and pick out notes with his fingers at the same time....it was really cool. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... I love to use thin picks for playing up- and downstokes. When I started to play electric guitar, I used thick picks, but now I have a medium pick that I use. | |

| Manafest is really good. I was surprised how much I liked The Chase. I used to be Kj-52 fan but it seemed his rap beats out did his rock. Whereas with Manafest it's got a lot more rock sound. | |

Too bad The Chase isn't his permanent sound. He did that album specifically as a "Rock project" but who knows, maybe he'll continue that sound since it was received so well.

Yeah, I've wondered about his earlier albums and I know they have some rock stuff on them but wasn't sure what the ratio was between rock and programmed beats. The Chase is the only thing I have by him outside of Impossible on my mp3 player. He is playing at a local free 2 day festival in Des Moines this summer and I may go and check it out.

| He has pretty much added the band. He wants to keep the rap/rock thing going, from what I understand. A good friend of mine is his DJ on some of the tours. So, he is always giving me a heads up on things that Mana is doing.
He is pretty good, basically still a kid, really.
