I'm back!!!

I haven't been online since Monday! Our old eMachines computer laid down and died Monday afternoon. It won't power up at all. But, it was 6 years old and had a lot of miles on it.

So, I am running a new eMachines desktop right now loaded with Windows Vista Home Premium. The computer has a DVD burner, 2.4 Ghz processor, 1 gig of RAM, and 160 gigs of memory. We got the thin screen, too.

So, I'm back!

Now to get the new laptop going, too!

I bet if you replace the power supply, the old one will work just fine, too. You could give it to a ministry then.

How much would it cost to replace the power supply, and can an idiot like me do this?

I have 2 computers. One is 6 years old, and the other is 5 years old. Both are slow, but they are nice colours!!!

I am starting to look like I have a used computer store in my building. I still have our old HP Windows 98 machine. It still works, but we replaced it 6 years ago.

We still have the old eMachines, but not for long. Once I get the memory cleaned & wiped, I will dispose of it.

There are a couple of computer places in Nashville where you can drop off old computers for recycling. I might do that tomorrow.

Probably $25-40, depending on where you go. If you can handle replacing memory or drives, you can replace a supply. The hardest part is getting the connectors off of everything. 4 screws hold it in. About a 5 min job. Take in your old one to make sure you get one with enough connectors.

There are always churches or ministries that can use old PCs.

I've never replaced a drive or memory. I did one time add some RAM, but the computer never worked properly after that.

You're assuming way too much, bro. Once you get inside the shell of the tower, I wouldn't know a drive from a USB connector. I can use a computer and do whatever I need them to, but I have no electronic/mechanical skills whatsoever. Even if I did find the correct thing to remove and buy another one, there are no guarantees that it will work after that. Plus, I don't want to start spending money to fix the old one just to give it away--especially not knowing if this would fix it.

Yeah, we bought the laptop and new desktop for not much more than we paid for our old computer 6 years ago. Computer equipment has really gotten cheaper as things get more advanced and the market gets more saturated.
