Will you help me to share with me the traditions of your region?
I'm really interested in the traditions of the region where you life.
Yep, I know the US is a very big country.

Maybe there are some traditional events in your county like a street BBQ or a town pic-nic.
Or food that you eat on special days.
Or events you special do with church on holidays?
Tell me, I really would like to know.

In Seattle (every year) they have a big music and art festival called "Bumbershoot". It usually lasts 3 days. You pay one price to get into the city center, and you can see all the art and music/comedy acts for that entry fee. I haven't been in years but it can be lots of fun with many vendors selling food and other junk, as well as lots of neat stuff to see. You can check it out here.

Here in Watertown, TN, we have the twice a year "Mile Long Yard Sale". You have people selling their junk and people from several states will come out to buy it. It's crazy, really.

We have various touristy events here, such as a blues festival and a bicycle race called Tour of the Gila. I'm not much into the bike race, but it's a fairly big deal. Lance Armstrong has raced in it twice.

Watertown also has a Jazz Fest. I have no idea why. You would think with a rural community like this that a bluegrass or country music festival would go over better. The locals turn out due to there being nothing else to do. I don't go because I just don't care for jazz.

Watertown also does an annual WW2 reenactment. I have no idea why as there were no battles here. They bring in all sorts of weaponry for this, and you will even hear the sounds of tanks firing. It gets annoying, however, to the local business owners who have to close up shop that day for lack of being able to hear the customers.

Every Memorial Day weekend (lasting 4 days), our town of Yucca Valley has what's called "Grubstakes Days" (original theme being the many pioneers that came out here diggin for gold and ultimately settled here). The weekend consists of a parade, rodeo, demolition derby (not just the ones on our highway), workshops, a big carnival (complete with toothless carni-workers), and so on...

We haven't been involved since the kids were little cuz it's grown SO big that we'd rather hide out at home for the weekend. All we do is have a family get together and barbeque - away from the crowds.

Back in the 80's it was awesome, cuz in the parade they had a "Grand Marshal"(sp?) who was a well known star (they stopped doing this in the early 90s). But we got to meet "Some-what" stars like Regis Philbin, Tawny Little, Linda Blair, etc.

I'll see if I can find my Linda Blair picture/autograph and post it for your amusement...

Wow a Linda Blair autographed picture!!! Laughing (gives me an idea for another thread)

Our little town is gearing up for something called "Red Hat Days". They usually shut down the main road and have a festival/carnival atmosphere. It was going on the day we moved here eleven years ago, and they shut down the street.....I couldn't figure out how to get to our house (because the main road was closed) and two other trucks full of our furniture were following me.

The festival coincides with the beginning of hunting season (late October) and the name "Red Hat Days" comes from the hunters wearing "red hats" to keep from being mistaken as a deer and shot by the other hunters (don't laugh, it happens all too often).

I saw one of those true story Detective Files shows where these 2 ppl used the same opportunity to off some poor guy for his life insurance, pretending it was a hunting accident. Pretty jacked up how cold ppl can be.

Last year I read a story where a teenager shot a woman walking on a paved nature trail (not at all a hunting area). The teen thought for sure she was a bear.
