I saw it about a year ago but can't seem to remember much of it. Didn't Travis play an actor in the movie?

Yes. he was an actor struggling to keep his faith while working in Hollywood and about to get an academy award. Then, his life falls to pieces. Except for the way thing turnaround at the end, this movie could have been prophetical for Randy minus the award for Travis' acting which would never happen,.

Super 8
Interesting movie. 6.5 out of 10.
wanted to watch it cuz me and my buddies had a super 8 camera when we were 10ish years old and filmed a slasher flick called "The Noon Murderer"... the killer turned out to be an alien who slaughtered people at 12 noon for no reason at all. I still have that video... it's awful !!
So yeh, that's why I wanted to watch Super 8, and it was pretty good (a little better than our movie Laughing

) !

I thought it was a little better than that, I would have given it a 7.

Meh, it had great effects, suspense value, great characters remeniscent of "Stand By Me", a pretty cool alien and story, but I only give a 7 and higher for movies that I'd be interested in watching again.... I wouldn't want to watch that again - didn't grab me as a classic (whereas Stand By Me for example gets a 9 and I've seen it at least 5 times - even that would get a ten if it weren't for the language).
