When was the last time you saw the original?
I watched it last year and it didn't seem nearly as good as I had remembered it.
I thought the new Karate Kid was pretty good taken as it's own movie (it is very different from the original KK)

The new Karate Kid was decent IF they had given it a new name. They were doing kung fu--not karate--in the movie. Ca-ching! They were trying to attract the old fans to this by using the same name. I hate to even call this a remake.

I agree they probably should have called it something else, but then fanatics of the orig Karate Kid would have just cried foul about them ripping off the original plot.

Oh yes, and I love Jackie Chan so that might have prejudiced my opinion of the film.

I like Jackie's movies, too, but he had very little fight time in this movie. Even with that, he's beating up children. I know--they attacked him, and he just puts enough hurt on them to stop the attack. But, I want to see him open up a can of Jackie Chan on somebody's butt!

I liked Pat Morita as Mr. Miagi better. He just had that old and wise persona. Also, "The Karate Kid" was a great way for him to shake off the stigma of just being on a tv sitcom. Remember, he played Arnold on "Happy Days" until the restaurant burned and Al bought it to rebuild.

There is a little sorcery, but the characters that do this are definitely evil. Other than that, the only "magic" is done by mythical gods.

My wifey wanted to watch it, and I did not protest since it had Julia Roberts in it. I think they should change the name to Eat Pray Love Snooze just because this film is just so blessed boring. Even for a chick flick, my wifey didn't like this either.

I always like movies with Julia Roberts.
Now I have read this I don't think I have to watch this movie.

Sounds like a good one to miss.
