| Anyone have any movies that you hope and pray are saved from remakes? Some classic films just do not need updating as they are perfect the way they were.
Here's a couple I could think of:
Smokey & The Bandit Deliverance Back to the Future The Karate Kid (sadly, this one IS being remade with Will Smith's son as Daniel and Jackie Chan as Mr. Miagi) Indiana Jones (any of them)
What are some of yours that you hope they just plain leave alone? I would rather see the originals of these just doctor to look a little more modern with their special effects and reissued like George Lucas did with his original Star Wars trilogy. _________________ I might have decided, or maybe not, that I should or shouldn't, depending on the issue or non-issue, to possibly share or not share, any thoughts, opinions, or facts (that might not be deemed factual by some), due to possible fear of any misinterpretation or retribution. https://christianhardmusic.niceboard.com/

| - Jaws...(some sequels made, and all of them sucked) - Alien...http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090605/(Aliens was the only good sequel, the rest were miscarriages. The original uncut version of Aliens is awesome. It wasn't released to the theaters because at the time the industry thought that no one wanted to sit through a 2 1/2 hour movie.) - Red Dawn...http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087985/(There's supposed to be a remake in the works, release date some time in 2010) - Patton (George C. Scott has no equal) - The Warriors...http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080120/ - Gremlins - The Omega Man...http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067525/(Some say I Am Legend is the remake, but I disagree. I Am Legend gleaned most of it's ideas from The Omega Man, but it was never listed as an official remake...I Am Legend is one of my all time favorite modern movies.) - Ben Hur - Princess Bride - Kelly's Heroes - Ladyhawke...http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089457/ | |

| I completely agree with the Back to the Future and Princess Bride movies. Any attempt to remake those films would be a big mistake, they could not be duplicated. - Dreams wrote:

| Pretty much any funny film should not be remade, as when they do it invariably goes horribly wrong.
So, no remakes of
Animal Crackers, Duck Soup A Night At The Opera etc
Also Star Wars I, III, IV, V, VI (They could probably do a good job on II) Groundhog Day

| Original actors make the initial movie 99% of the time. For example, there'll NEVER be another Three Stooges. The 3 brothers Moe, Shemp and Curly and their fall guy Larry were IT ! When some started dying off and they tried to replace them with "curly-joe" and whoever else, those episodes were trash. Think of any first movie you LOVED and a certain character MADE the movie what it was.... Remakes are stupid and they should NEVER waste a penney on making them. Anyone disagree ? Any remakes you think were a vast improvement upon the original ? | |

I can imagine there are have been several remakes in the last 20 years that were taken from much older movies that might be an imporvement. I recently watched both versions of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" I had seen the orig. (1950s) version years ago, but it seemed rather lame watching it again. However even if the newer version was better (and I'm not sure it was) it was just because of the fantastic special effects and not because the acting was any better. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... | I'll have to agree that some movies can be done well and come close to the original. I loved the most recent "King Kong". They did a great job of catching the feeling of the first and making your heart break for the big monkey instead of making him completely into a monster. The true monsters were the guys wanting to take Kong from his habitat and make $$$ off of him. The effects were awesome as well.
Also, I never really liked the original Planet of the Apes. However, I did see the modern rendition twice at the theater--something I rarely do with any film unless it is REALLY good.

| I also think a lot of remakes are successful because of modern computer effects. | |

| I would agree, but with "Planet of the Apes", they mixed a good level of comedy with the action. Fans of the original might have hated it, but I thought it was done extremely well. _________________ I might have decided, or maybe not, that I should or shouldn't, depending on the issue or non-issue, to possibly share or not share, any thoughts, opinions, or facts (that might not be deemed factual by some), due to possible fear of any misinterpretation or retribution. https://christianhardmusic.niceboard.com/ | |

| some classics like "The End" with Burt Reynolds and Dom Deloise or "some like it hot" with Marilyn Monroe could NEVER be redone simply cuz of the original characters who made the movie. | |

| Don't say "never". If someone thinks they can make a buck from a remake, it will happen. It might not have the feel of the original, but it will happen.
One would never had thought that the "Pink Panther" movies would need to be remade. They were still funny as they were, but it happened. Also, "Cheaper By the Dozon" didn't need being remade. The remakes are good, but they still don't feel like the originals.
So, even though a film might not be IMPROVED upon by a remake, you can bet that a lot of personal favorites will someday get rehashed. Hollywood seems to be running out of good ideas.

Actually, both of those films were attempts to film the 50's book I Am Legend, by Richard Matheson. There was also another earlier version, but I forget the title. In the book (which I am a huge fan of), one man is left alone in a world in which all other human beings are turned into vampires. It is also very remenicent of the Romero zombie films in style and execution. While I have not seen The Omega Man or the other earlier film, The Will Smith version is not far off from the book, other than the changing of the creatures from vampires to whatever you would call them.Despite the changes, I like the Will Smith version quite a bit. I would encourage you to check out the book, though. It's a classic. |
