This is a message I have gotten from Project Damage Control.

"We are looking at a Spring 09 release.
We are releasing 2 EP's instead of 1 album.

Marco Sfogli is recording more guitar tracks now as I write, then John Lawry
will do some keys, Greg Bailey has a little more bass work to do, then
vox will be recorded, Greg Voltz will sing on our prelude. October is
mixing month."

Is that ever happened?
A band will release two EP's instead of a full length album.

Sounds like they should change the name of the band to Petra. All you're lacking is Bob Hartman. Greg Bailey was the final bassist for Petra, I believe.

I wish they would just do one CD. EPs just irritate me.

Exactly. What is the point of releasing 2 eps. I mean why not just combine the songs and make 1 full cd

I asked the band the same question and the answer of Brent of PDC is:

"Actually, people are buying less LPs,
because there just aren't enough good tunes to justify it. So they
download the few tunes that they like and go from there. This is the
way it will be for ever now that iTunes sells the most music in the
world.

The problem with releasing one LP is that the industry
will accept only ONE musical genre classification. You have to have one
title that covers it all. If you are wrong, you miss out on sales and
airplay.

What we are doing is multipurposed. We are selling a
rock/prog-rock CD, and a AC/Rock CD. This way the radio people will
look at the disc that has their music, and the rock crowd will only get
the music they like.

As far as itunes goes, if we put out 14
tunes on one disc, they still charge 9.99 for it. If you downloaded
them individually, you would pay $14, so we lose money. So we would
rather offer two EPs with 7 songs each, have them be received by their
two different markets and get paid appropriately.

The number of
tunes is kind of a misnomer here. One of our tunes is closing in on 14
minutes long. That is about half of the average band's CD of 28
minutes. Most of our songs are about 4 minutes long. So, we are giving
a big bang for the buck here."

They forget not all people buy tunes on iPod.
I prefer it to order CDs instead of MP3's.

As it is, I would argue that they will lose sales due to the EPs. I won't be buying either.

That's my thought too PDC won't sell much EP's when you have to buy two EP's instead of a full length album.
This doesn't rock this time.
I hope they change their mind about the two EP's.

I use Itunes, but unlike a lot of people I buy complete cds instead of buying only the songs I like. It just doesn't seem fair to the artists when you only buy a few. Even though I don't like the whole 2 ep system, I understand why they're doing it.

I can't. For the most part, it is going to be older rock fans buying Project Damage Control due to their style. Our generation still buys more CDs that MP3s. I think they need to cater to their fanbase.

I like the idea of different ep's. This way you dont have a lot of rockin songs then a lot of soft ones mixed in to ruin the flow. I dont mind one or two soft songs on a album, but not 50%.

Instead of two 7 song EP's, why not boil things down to your 10 best songs - irregardless of style classification - and release one good album instead?
