| This is the same thing I posted at CMR. I thought it might entertain people here too, so I figured I'd post it here. My apologies if it merely bores instead. But here's the trivia collage. Here are 120 50x50 cover thumbnail images from the good old days of Christian rock and metal: 1980 to 2000. There is metal, hard rock, rock, AOR, with a little bit of alternative hard rock, punk, hardcore, even a dash of goth metal. You'll find a few indies, a few imports and a few alternate covers. I did this as much for me as to challenge anyone else, to take my mind off some personal stuff. But I hope it'll be an entertaining diversion for others, maybe spark some memories. So how many of these artists and albums can you identify? [You must be the first to list the #, artist, and album name to have your name attached in parentheses. ] Note: nazpastor nailed right on the head the vast majority of these titles amazingly quickly, but there are still a handful left. Well done, nazpastor. And well done to those who have filled in some of the holes remaining. Anyone up to the task of finishing off the list? They are all from 1980 - 2000... except for three. Which three were released after 2000? Two of these are industrial classics. Which two? Two of these are various artist compilations. Which two? (Edit) Four of these are best-of collections. Which four? One of these was never released on CD. Which one? Which artists have more than one album pictured? Which artist has absolutely no right to be in this collage? Have fun: 1. Extol - Undeceived (nazpastor) 2. Saviour Machine - Saviour Machine II (nazpastor) 3. Guardian - First Watch (nazpastor) 4. Towne Cryer - Death By Sin (Staybrite) 5. | Disposable Hero, not all members of CHM join the CMR too. So I think it's not boring you posted this here too.
This really is helpful when you feel bored.

| I have, or have had all of the ones I listed I believe. There are a few exceptions to that, I don't care for a lot of hardcore or death/black/grind metal. A lot of those I recognized, even though I don't have them. | |

| nazpastor, first let me say, wow! You know your stuff. Let no one tell you otherwise. I normally fill in artist - albums and them put in parentheses the person who named it first, in the master list. But you named so many of them (almost all, I think) that I'll wait just a bit so that others who don't scroll down to your post can stimulate their brains without seeing all the answers. Let me also say, I'm impressed with your knowledge of the cover variations. Here are some notes about the ones you specifically noted, and a few others: 1. Extol - Undeceived- This is the Japan issue, which is in color instead of silver and includes bonus tracks. 2. Saviour Machine - Saviour Machine II- You recognized this one even though it's the original undistributed one with the Intense label. Nicely done. 12. Mortification - Mortification- Original cover, which was later banned and therefore replaced with the "tame" cover. I've never heard it called a "gory" cover before, but I guess that works. 14. Jerusalem - Prophet- I thought I could throw people off with this one, make it tricky, since it's the Viva issue. The R.E.X. issue in the U.S. used the cover image that Viva used for Jerusalem's "The Waiting Zone" 2-song single. 19. Paramaecium - Exhumed Of The Earth- At first glance, you might think this is the R.E.X. issue. But it's actually the indie. If you compare it to the label release, you'll see the image on the front is different--R.E.X. swapped two image locations on the insert when they released the title. 20. GROMS - Ascension- I always wanted to get the other covers of this one, but never managed to get more than this one. Perhaps one day. 21. X-Sinner - Get It- The one pictured here, in gray with no band photo, is the A&M release that hit secular distribution. The one most people know is the Pakaderm release, blue in color with the band photo. I thought this might throw people and make them wonder if there was another X-Sinner album they didn't know about. But there was no fooling you. 25. Jet Circus - Step On It- This is the original CD issue on Pila Music from Germany, released in 1989. The cover pictures all 3 of the original band members, a picture which was later altered when the band dropped to just Gomer and Haw. The track order is different on this release, and it also includes the cover of "Let's Dance" instead of the cover of "Be Bop A Lula." 48. Zion - Thunder From The Mountain- This is the variation that does not include the band name Zion in the upper right corner. I've come across this cover variation far less often than the version with the band name on the front. 73. Greg X Volz - The River Is Rising- This is the jewel case version, not the original digipack case. As you can imagine, the digipack scan wouldn't fit the 50x50 setup. 80. Carman - Comin' On Strong- Yep, this is the odd man out, the one that doesn't belong. This is the original Myrrh cover, as opposed to the Word/Epic cover (which differs slightly in that it has a blue border and does not have the "compact disc" insignia in the lower left). 90. Soul Shock Remedy - Fish Eye Lens- The R.E.X. issue with the fish, this isn't nearly as cool of a cover as the original indie, but I thought people were more likely to know this R.E.X. version so I included it instead. 95. Believer - Sanity Obscure- I chose the original R.E.X. issue because the title Sanity Obscure is in maroon lettering, which at 50x50 is virtually impossible to make out--meaning people would have to rely on the imagery to figure out the album. The Roadrunner issue has the title Sanity Obscure in bright white lettering. 109. Crimson Thorn - Unearthed- Another one of those where I was never able to get the original cover, only the R.E.X. issue. Given the rarity, I will probably never obtain the original cover. 117. Passafist - Passafist- The angel cover, as distributed to the secular market through Relativity Entertainment Distribution (RED) and not as common as the plain cover. 120. Seventh Angel - The Torment- I used the Star Song cover, although at 50x50 you might not recognize the difference. The one I have on Edge/Under One Flag does not have the Scripture reference to the right of the title The Torment. Once again, nazpastor, very impressive. You know your classic Christian rock and metal (and even your Carman ). | |

| I can't say that I would have gotten as many as Naz. I would have been REALLY close those. I do not know the name of the CD, but #77 is Stavesacre. _________________ I might have decided, or maybe not, that I should or shouldn't, depending on the issue or non-issue, to possibly share or not share, any thoughts, opinions, or facts (that might not be deemed factual by some), due to possible fear of any misinterpretation or retribution. https://christianhardmusic.niceboard.com/ | |

| LOL, I seem to have this problem that when I know about cover variations, I try to get them all. I pulled my Jerusalem "Prophet" discs out to make sure which one it was. I was in pretty close contact with Christian Rivel for a few years and he hooked me up with a ton of Jerusalem stuff, in addition to a lot of other stuff that is really tough to get in the states. I have the Swedish and US releases of all of their albums, plus most all of Ulf's stuff.
I have nearly all of the versions that you have shown, with a few exceptions. I do not have that Jet Circus cover. The Carman disc I had on tape, but never got around to getting it on CD. I have both versions of "Get It", so that didn't trick me either.
I have something you might never have seen though. I have an original pressing of Saint "Times End" and Messiah Prophet "Master of the Metal". The disc art is completely different on those versions. The thing about the Master of the Metal is that the track listing is actually correct on that pressing. The version that is normally found has the tracks listed wrong. The A side songs are listed last and the B side songs are first. On my first pressing version, A side are first and B side are second.
I also have a thing about Japanese versions. I always try to get Japanese releases if I know about it.
All I know is, I spend waaaay to much time messing with music stuff, but I enjoy it so I continue it.
Also, I was wondering if the album that was never released on CD had been named? I think I know which one you mean, but if it is, I actually have it on CD.

Also, I was wondering if the album that was never released on CD had been named? I think I know which one you mean, but if it is, I actually have it on CD. I am exactly the same way. I've slowed down, and in the last 4 years have not actively pursued the music collection for a few reasons. But I love to collect every variation I learn of, both cover art and disc layout, right down to little details. I was just looking over my Whitecross collection again one or two days ago and wondered why I had 3 Hammer & Nail CDs. I knew I should have one Pure Metal and one Star Song issue. When I opened up the 2 Pure Metal cases and saw that one disc was in red print and one was in black, I remembered why I had kept 2. It's the little things that make it so fun. I used to have both pressings of Messiah Prophet, but sold my original pressing a long time ago. I have long regretted it. I still have both pressings of Time's End as well as both Pure Metal pressings of Too Late For Living. Similarly I have both Pure Metal pressings of the self-titled Whitecross. The most distinctive thing to me about those very first pressings of Whitecross, Time's End and Master Of The Metal is the very simplistic lettering and disc layout. The later pressings are where they introduced band logos and corrected errors. And with Too Late For Living you see the biggest difference of all. The Pure Metal reissue has the huge sword on the disc and, most importantly, got mastered correctly so that the track "Returning" didn't get cut in half. I always go after Japan issues when I can afford them, for the quality and for the ubiquitous bonus tracks. Getting color artwork on the Extol disc was a bonus. As for the album never released on CD, no one in CHM has mentioned it yet. If you have the title I'm referring to on CD, I'm wondering if it's a custom job. I own it on CD, but I converted it myself (along with the follow-up EP by the band with a different vocalist) because I have never heard of a CD release to this date. But I'll have to do some digging on the web. Perhaps it got some special treatment a while back that I'm not aware of. [P.S. The title was one that you didn't have the answer for in your list, so I'm thinking you probably don't have it on CD.] Anyway, I'll have to get to work on a follow-up trivia collage, since you blew through this one so fast. Once the last few are filled in, I'll need another one ready to roll...

#77 Stavesacre - Friction Correct on both counts! And I have since come to realize that I was awfully tired when I posted this collage. I thought originally I had one best-of CD pictured. Then I realized I was wrong and amended it to read two best-of CDs. Then someone pointed out a third. Finally, someone pointed out Precious Death and I realized I had four best-of CDs in the collage and didn't even realize it. Oops. Anyway, good eye on both of those, 7th.

| Well I think I was able to fill a few holes left by naz, but not many. In all I was only able to get about 80 of them.
4. Town Cryer – Death By Sin (been looking for a copy of this album for years) 17. First Strike – Rock of Offense 42. 8 Ball Chaos (or something like that, I’ve seen it before but never heard it) 68 A.N.D. – Get Real (never heard this one either) _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... | No, I do not have Rock of Offense on CD. I was thinking the Tempest disc. I was thinking of A Coming Storm, even though I named the right disc listed. A Coming Storm was never officially released on CD, though Mick Rowe did put out a CDR with the songs. M8 released a version with the two discs, but "A Coming Storm" was never "officially" on CD. That was what I was thinking when I wrote that, but I also had just gotten in from working in the yard and cleaning the gutters for 3 hours before I posted.

| An amusing note: My wife sat down at the computer to VPN to her office computer and check e-mail. The collage was on the screen in my graphics program and somehow her eye was drawn to the image of Carman and the fact that, even though she doesn't listen to metal or hard rock, he was seriously out of place. You should have heard the confusion and disbelief in her voice when she asked, "Is that Carman?" | |

4. Town Cryer – Death By Sin (been looking for a copy of this album for years) 17. First Strike – Rock of Offense 42. 8 Ball Chaos (or something like that, I’ve seen it before but never heard it) 68 A.N.D. – Get Real (never heard this one either) Very impressive! I love the Towne Cryer CD. But note that it's actually spelled with an "e" on the end of Towne. A few years ago I thought I stumbled across a follow-up CD by the group, on eBay. I bought it and received it only to discover that it was by Town Cryer. Without the "e" on the end. It was a different, secular group. I was bummed. Not even close in sound. The A.N.D. CD never got especially good reviews, but I have always really enjoyed it. I'm easily pleased when it comes to rock, but even so I think it was unfairly panned by those who reviewed it. It's a good solid rock release. Well worth picking up if you get the chance. I'm impressed that you recognized Eight Ball Cholos. Can you name the album? It never dawned on me that the title may be considered a bit objectionable to some. I don't really think it is. But if it gets listed and you find it so, just let me know and I'll edit it out. As for the musical style, it's underground sounding (production value is a bit low) and has a sort of thrash/hardcore sound with a bit of punk mixed in. I've always linked it and Frank's Enemy in my mind. I can't remember if they both have members of The Lead or not, although I know Frank's Enemy does (Julio Rey if memory serves me correctly). I haven't listened to either one in a long, long time. NOTE: In the other forum, the album title got edited by the moderator, so I'm going to assume it might be offensive here as well. I'll fill in the title with a discrete subsitution right now to avoid problems. You are correct about First Strike not having been released on CD. I have recorded both Rock Of Offense and Crank It Up! to CD from the cassettes and then ripped the CD to mp3, and even though I made the CD a decade or more ago with my first CD burner (back when they cost $500) the quality is pretty good, if I do say so myself. I listen to it a lot. Anyway...

I only got their Lost In The Storm. And the quality wasn't very good, although I could be off on this one, as I haven't listened to it in a long time. The 2-in-1 from Mick Rowe, Tempest Limited Edition, was, if I remember correctly, pretty good quality for sound even if the packaging was kind of low budget. I'll have to give them both a listen in the near future and see how closely I remembered them. Great classic rock.

| As for Tempest, I got all of the albums released by Mick, which was the Limited Edition, but he also released each title by themselves. They are all about the same quality, which is better than the M8 in my opinion. And no, there wasn't a two disc release by M8, just the Lost in The Storm, but it had part of both discs on it. I actually bought Mick's guitar from him once. He sold an electric guitar that he played while he was touring with GS Megaphone a few years back. I was trying to teach myself to play. That was a joke. I now have it just setting around, unplayed. I will have to try to track down the Towne Cryer and A.N.D. discs. I have never heard of them. I actually didn't listen to Christian rock or metal when it came out. My mother-in-law to be lambasted Petra, and trying to appease her, I stopped listening to anything harder than Larnelle Harris or Amy Grant for the latter part of the 80's and up until the mid-90's. Then I realized it wasn't any of her business and finally had the guts to break the news to her. By that time, I had been married for a few years and she couldn't keep me away from her daughter if I didn't buckle under. Anyhow, I missed a lot of great music and so over the past 6-7 years I have ravenously pursued building my collection of titles. I am sure there are other great discs that I have never heard of, and when I hear of them, back on the hunt I go. | |

What kind of guitar? Does it have a hardshell case? How much are you asking? I just wanted to know. Putting the info out there could help you sell it. - Quote :

I actually see the Towne Cryer stuff in discount bins in CD Warehouse around here quite frequently. But, with the A.N.D. stuff, you will have trouble tracking it down for an affordable price. I have a CD-R of it, and that will be fine with me until someone finally reissues it. _________________ I might have decided, or maybe not, that I should or shouldn't, depending on the issue or non-issue, to possibly share or not share, any thoughts, opinions, or facts (that might not be deemed factual by some), due to possible fear of any misinterpretation or retribution. https://christianhardmusic.niceboard.com/

| My daughter plays around with the guitar from time to time, so I will probably just keep it around for her.
Unfortunately, we don't have anywhere around me that sells used CDs. I buy almost exclusively online. I will track them down sometime, but then for me it is as much the chase as actually having the disc. Maybe I will put together a collage in the near future. Not to steal Disposable's thunder, but I have some discs that are pretty tough to identify that could be fun to try.

I have no idea about the album title. As a matter of fact I botched the name, I thought it was "Eight Ball Chaos" not "Eight Ball Cholos". I just remember seeing it in someones on-line collection (somewhere). What is a Cholos anyway? It sounds like part of your intestines. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... | I think the reason that the A.N.D. disc is harder to find and therefore more expensive is that it was a U.K. indie release. Towne Cryer was a U.S. indie release. I bought both when they first came out, many, many moons ago. I already filled in the name of the Eight Ball Cholos album, with a slightly modified name, because I realized the title might be offensive to some. I realized this just before discovering the title had been edited by a moderator on the CMR board. The word wouldn't offend me, especially in the right context, but I can see now I would have been better off choosing a different 50x50 for that spot. Hindsight and all... It's good to know about the 2 separate Tempest discs released by Mick Rowe. I only have that 2-in-1, so eventually when I can afford it I'll work on tracking down the 2 individual titles. Someday... nazpastor, I'm already at work on collage number 2, as well as secular collage number 2 for CMR, but don't let that stop you from making your own collage. I'd love the challenge of identifying your picks. If they're from the last 5 years or so I doubt I'll get them, since I haven't been collecting for a while. But from the 80s and 90s there's a good chance I'll recognize some of them. Right now I'm doing some scanning for number 2. A section of my collection needs to be rescanned (I was never satisfied with my original scans and so, over time, I've rescanned thousands of covers, with about 500 left to go). I'm selectively scanning some covers to go into collage number 2. Anyone want to take a shot at the last 5 or 6 unidentified covers in the collage? 3 of them have not been identified on CHM or CMR. I suspected 69 and 71 would take a bit of time. But I thought 105 would get snagged right away. [I've also got to think of some way to get nazpastor his own special copy of collage number 2, so that all the blanks are not filled in before everyone else gets to see the collage again. ]

| If you are doing a second collage, I will hold off filling in the answers that I know until others have a chance to get to it. I know I have seen 69 & 71, but I can't remember what they are. I thought 71 was re-issue of Mortification's Blood World or Best of 5 Years. I couldn't confirm that though. | |
