PostSubject: Christian version of Rush?   Christian version of Rush? I_icon_minitimeSat Jun 08, 2013 8:59 am

So there's a record of Christian bands "cloning" secular bands… anyone know of any Rush counterparts? I know of Trytan, but they sound more like the poppy '80s phase than the epic '70s stuff. My favourite Rush albums so far are Hemispheres, 2112, Moving Pictures and Test For Echo.

Any tips appreciated. Thanks. Very Happy

I have painstakingly put together my music collection website with as much detail as I could possibly find. On each band I've tried to reference bands that are comparable (section called "for fans of...").

What you could do (since I don't have the time myself) is go to each page, hit "control + F" and search "Rush" on each page. This will give you all the bands that compare to Rush.
Just a thought...

The first thing that comes to mind is Trytan. They are long out of print. The reprints are probably out of print. See if you can find them. If not, one of us will hit you up with the MP3s.

Someone has already sent me the downloads of Trytan. I find them to be good but not fantastic. As I mentioned in my first post, Trytan is based more on the '80s sound (a bit like "A Show Of Hands") that Rush had. I'm looking for something more like Rush's '70s sound.

G/F: I'm taking the suggestion right now. Smile I totally forgot about Barnabas. I always thought FTF had a sound similar to 2112 at moments.

Also, I didn't realize how much Jimmy Hotz does sound like Rush at times. I've only heard "From Love Life Did Begin" which is very slow and dreamy.
Also, Wyzards doesn't sound that much like Rush to me but still has a cool proggy/heavy sound.

Thanks for the suggestions so far! Headbang

yeh, a lot of the comparison bands on my website are based on the concept of "IF YOU LIKE _______, THEN YOU WILL PROBABLY LIKE THIS BAND". So it's not a "Sounds Like" comparison, but more of a "if you're into this band, you'll like that band". (But then there are some comparisons that are actual "sounds like")

Trytan was THE band that sounded like Rush..... Not quite sure where the Show of Hands element came in....

Listen to Genesis or No Where to Run.... from Celestial Messenger.... actually my name sake track Mr. Electric.... or even It's War....

the drumming has Neil Peart written all over it.... as a Rush fanatic going on 33 years Celestial Messenger takes the elements of the 70's and blends them with some 80's sensibilities... The mid to late 80's Rush albums didnt have the guitar fire this album did.... Yes there are keyboards but Hemispheres had keyboards as did A Farewell to Kings....

Some of the Torman Maxt material had an early Rush vibe....

I never quite heard the Barnabas connection at all..... imo....

Sylentiger had some good moments but Celestial Messenger was the disc....

I don't know of a secular band that's similar so finding a Christian one will be nil. The main players have been mentioned. There are good Christian prog rock bands but they have their own sound. For a more 70s sound you might look into Glass Harp (who were from the early 70s in fact). Their albums have been reissued.

There was a Pacific Northwest based group from the late eighties named Paragon that also captures that 'Rush-like' sound. Unfortunately, the group - despite releasing two demos and winning the Klitsap County battle of the bands contest three years running - never was signed. They did, however, place one track on the "Underground Metal" compilation from 1988.

The Amazon one has a 2006 date when the last release was 2000. Discogs was LP/Cassette.  The wrong date makes me wonder...I have bought old CD's before on e-bay and such, just to get a burned disc.

On some of the songs that I've heard from Theocracy. The Lead singer sounds like Getty Lee
