PostSubject: Surrender to the call.   Sun Nov 01, 2009 11:07 pm

Well I have some amazing news. I've been struggling for the past 8 months or so with what God wants to me to do in life, well, today He confirmed it.
He has called me to preach, I believe this with all my heart, He has showed me that this is what He wants me to do through His word, and through other people and purely by me just surrendering everything to Him.

But the part that is most amazing is while He has been calling me, God has been calling my dad too, neither dad, nor me knew the other was being called till we just started sharing stuff with each other. My dad told me one day that God had called him to preach, I was like "that is amazing! cause God has been calling me too."

So, me and my dad went forward this morning in church to share the great news with everybody. Now I have to finish high school and figure out where God wants me to go to college, as far as my dad goes; he is trying to get in to Liberty Unv. in Virginia and do online courses.

Please be in prayer for both of us, God has got a fire started in both of our hearts. Pray that everything will work out how it needs to, and pray that God will give us the strength to stand against whatever the devil throws at us.

Thank you all!

Wow a tough calling. I pray that God will guide you both.

Yes, it is a tough calling. But, if God wants us to do it He will help us through.

When God tells you He has a job for you to do He will give you first a good education and will prepare you for the jobs He has for you.
He will help you to do the job He has for you.

If God is calling you to preach, Tim, then you will need seminary training to be taken seriously by most churches. Personally, I prefer God-called men in the pulpit that have gotten to know the Lord and His word through their own study instead of someone that has a piece of paper from a seminary. However, most churches do not agree. That should help in making your decision about a college.

Also, if you are interested in some other field of study, you might want to go to a Christian university where you could train in both ministry and another line of profession. Unless you get a really large church to start with, you will need more than one line of income. Having a side vocation is important.

Other than that, praise God for what He is doing in your life!

Our old church lost it's pastor because they where unable to provide for him financially. Since he had no training in any other line of work he felt forced to leave the small church for a larger congregation.

That happens a lot. But, as a church grows, they can provide more. So, a church must ask themselves if they want a full-time pastor or bi-vocational. If they want bi-vocational, then they must be willing to allow the pastor the time to work. If they want a full-time pastor who is on call most of the time, then they really need to pony up and take care of their minister and his family so that income is not a focus for him.

Well I will be preaching my first sermon on the 29th of this month in the night service. The preacher from the church aldat and I both used to go to called me after hearing about my decision and asked if I would mind. I told him yes after some thought.

So be in prayer for me. Smile

I will see if I can get away from my regular duties and come to hear you. I think it would be awesome to hear one of the kids from my former church begin their ministry behind the pulpit.

That's great drumdude to hear you are going to preach for the first time.
I know God will give you His words you have to speak to the congregation.

Praise God! Bringing forth the word at 15 can only be God. Stay out of His way is the only advice I'll give.
