PostSubject: Prayers for my dad   Thu Aug 27, 2009 5:46 pm

I got a phone call from my brother this morning while at school. They had to take my dad to the local VA Hospital and on to Vanderbuilt with a brain aneursym. We don't know much at this time. All prayers would be appreciated.

Daddy's going to be in the hospital for some time. They are supposed to try an angiogram sometime today and see if they can relieve that aneurysm. If they cannot, then that will probably mean brain surgery. If they go that route, it will be a long road to recovery.

I'm on my laptop here at Vandy. Daddy's pain has subsided greatly during the night. We are waiting for the results from a CT scan to see what they are going to do. Right now, the Drs. are looking at doing an angiogram and look around in daddy's head like they would if you had a blockage around the heart. Technology is so amazing! But, regardless of how cool the hospital's toys are, I know it is God that is in control.

Daddy is resting after having his angiogram. One of the arteries in his neck is totally closed off. Since he is not getting enough blood to the brain (and hasn't for years), his body has rerouted blood through some new veins. He has one tiny vein in his forehead that is supplying all the blood to the right front part of the brain. There is a TON of pressure there, and that is what caused the aneurysm. The aneurysm is small, and they cannot put a stint in it to pinch it off.

They are going to have to change some of his meds around so that his body can clot this leak itself. Right now, there could be a couple of surgical options on the table, but we don't know anything for sure. It's still up in the air for now.

A brain surgery is heavy.
Sometimes it's the only way to get better.

Your dad can talk?

The doctors have made up their minds. They are going to do surgery on Tuesday. They are going to open him up and go in and clamp off the aneurysm. It's a major risk, but there is too great a chance of this breaking loose again to let it go.

It's a risk.
We serve a might God and in things lik this it's good to ask Him for wisdom and lead the theam that has to do the surgery.

At what time is the surgery scheduled?

We had to go the surgery route with my grandfather a few years back when he was experiencing similar pressure as well as clotting in and around his skull after a bad fall. It's a long road to recovery, especially the older you are. But your dad is really lucky to have a supportive family like you guys and I know that was great for my grandpa too.

Daddy is in great spirits this morning. He ate a very big breakfast, and they are going to let him get out of bed for a while today. He is going to have surgery Tuesday, but he is in INCREDIBLY good condition considering having an aneurysm. One of his doctors told me that 3 out of 5 patients die before they get to the hospital. Of the remaining 2, one of them never makes it to any form of surgery. So, daddy is ahead of the curve, in a great mind about the procedure, and has been reminded numerous times by me and some of the staff that God is in control of this.

My uncle have had an aneurysm too a couple of years ago and his doctor told him he never expected to see him back. He thought my uncle would die due the aneurysm.
Yes, we serve a wonderful God.

No real change today. The staff is going to check his heart, lungs, and renal functions to make sure that he's up to this surgery. Other than that, I have no news.

Sabidoo and I got to briefly meet with Dr. Thompson--daddy's neurosurgeon. As of right now, we are go for tomorrow's procedure. I just have to keep reminding myself that God is bigger than the raging of life's seas.

Keep praying for the surgeon, my dad, and my strength.
