PostSubject: ChristianDiscs.com??   Fri Dec 23, 2016 10:10 am

I bought a few CDs from ChristianDiscs.com a number of years ago, but the site has been gone for a long time. Does anyone here know what happened to them? Are the former owners on this forum, or does anyone here know them? They seemed to disappear with no explanation. They were a pretty good source for the discs I liked. I also watched their little announcement about getting Christian rock T-shirts in stock, hoping to get some, but that never materialized.

I'm always in the market for Christian rock T-shirts, but I usually find out about them after my size has sold out.

I don't think that the owners of that site were ever members here.  If they were, I don't remember them.

As for disappearing, many Christian online distros have come and gone.  RadRockers and BlastBeats used to be my places to go.  Gone.  Others have sprung up and disappeared as well.  CDs aren't selling well anymore.  MP3s don't sell well either as most people under 30 will tell you that they would never buy music when they can get it for free online.  Or, they stream it.  Artists don't really get paid for their work with streaming.  You get a fraction of what you'd get if your song was on the radio and that isn't right, really.

Back to the online stores, though, you can't blame them for packing it up and calling it a day if they can't move product.

I went to the RadRockers site myself several times. I may have bought a disc or two from them. Can't remember. I have also bought a lot of albums from CDBaby, but mostly downloads. I don't mind paying these bands for their music, since, even if they ever did have contracts with companies, I know they got screwed over by them. SCB is a perfect example. Duncan and the gang should be rolling in the dough. It doesn't bother me to rip off Word or Sparrow. They ripped off their artists. But I want the artists to be paid. Many of them have had to have second jobs to make ends meet, and they are fortunate if they have a house and car paid for.

I'm almost certain that the owner of ChristianDiscs.com wasn't a member here (or if they were, they didn't let anyone know they were affiliated with the site).

I started purchasing Christian metal and hard rock back in 2005 and remembering buying quite a few cds (and even some very cheap cassettes) from both RadRockers and BlastBeast back in the day.  Also picked up few albums from a site that I think was called Cross Rhythms (or something like that).

I see you figured out how to login again. Since I reset your password, you'll need to use the one I sent you next time you login unless you change it back to what you want.

I'm not sure if it was a name change or a buy out, but Cross Rhythms Music actually became Blastbeats.com. I wouldn't be surprised if it were the former because there is a Cross Rhythms Music in the UK that, while a Christian music organization, was not the same one since CRM was based in the US (or at least had a US phone number). Meanwhile, Blastbeats actually still exists as an Amazon store:

http://astore.amazon.com/blastbeatscom-20

I have't purchased anything from them in years, since before the jumped into Amazon's "marketplace," but they are clearly still in operation because www.blastbeats.com redirects to the Amazon store, and many of the items they have are relatively new, such as Stryper's No More Hell To Pay. Of course, it could also be a front for a mob money laundering operation ...  lol!

Seriously, though, it almost looks like it's actually Amazon.com selling select CDs under the Blastbeats name because if you select an item to view it says "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com". I picked one item at random (happened to be Mortification's Primitive Rhythm Machine), and the Blastbeats "store front" indicates there are "23 new or used available from $8.49", and if you click on it you are redirected to a standard Amazon page where the used ones are shown as being from all over the world and not some private inventory. However, a direct search for that same CD at Amazon.com "proper" shows a different availability with the lowest being for $5.29. It's all very strange.

So essentially, if you go to blastbeats.com you will apparently be buying from Amazon, but your "store front" will be Christian rock and metal, not unlike browsing through a Christian music store.

It's possible there were two separate ones at first. I always bought and traded with CRM, then Blastbeats after that, but never both. I have six sampler CDs labeled volumes 1 through 6, with the first four titled "Cross Rhythms Music Extreme Music Sampler" and the last two titled "Blastbeats Extreme Music Sampler." What's more, the first three have one phone number on the label, while the last three have another one. Disc #4 is the tie-in, so to speak, as it has the Blastbeats name but the CRM phone number. Regardless of how the change took place, be it rename or merger, CRM at some point ceased while Blastbeats continued. Smile

That's some pretty neat history right there.
Even though there are still some good Christian distributors out there (and some not so good).  It really feels like we are reaching the end of an era.

Target is already shutting down CD sales in some stores.  More will follow.  While records and turntables have temporarily increased, they know it is a niche market that will run its course and die back down.  If the hipster young adults were not driving this movement and pushing up sales, it would already be dying off.  Most people don't even buy MP3s now as they can just stream what they want.  It is just a matter of time until we are all forced into submission with streaming as well.  Has the industry really ever asked consumers what they wanted when it came to moving into new technology?

I don't believe the owner of ChristianDiscs.com was any forum (Firestream, CMR or CHM).  They pretty much kept to themselves.

I would suggest looking at Christian Metal Distro for most of your music needs.

They just seemed to disappear with no warning or indication of their intentions, or letting us know what happened. It's like the owner just died. I just don't like not knowing.

I do know Bim. We were connected on Facebook for several years, but I deleted everyone and started over. Bim and I had a lot of back and forth over the years. We got to know each other pretty well, but we've never met.

We were also both at the Jerusalem concert at Seneca College in Toronto in 1983, but we didn't know that until a few years ago.

Not if they want to stay in business. Business psychology tells us that in order to sell you have to make people unsatisfied with what they have and them tell them what they want that will make them satisfied - until the next product.

If you need proof of that just shop at Walmart. Odds are they won't have what you went there to get, but you'll still end up buying something you didn't realize you needed.

They can't find it because Walmart requires merchandise be moved around. It's part of their marketing ploy; while you searching for what you really need you might stumble across something you truly (only not really) need.

My experience is that the shelf where what I'm looking for is usually empty. For example, they never seem to have the cough drops I prefer when I need them, forcing me to buy several bags when I don't need them just to stock up, and they typically don't have my preferred brand and weight of motor oil when I need it, again forcing me to buy in advance. That's not so bad, as I don't mind being prepared. But those are the kind of things you don't typically plan to need, you just suddenly do.

With motor oil, as long as I get the weight needed, I am good with that.  Most oils are just like gasoline.  They are made at the same refinery, shipped to the bottling plant, and then go straight out to the stores.  While some additives may be added to the oil during bottling, it is generally trace amounts and it shouldn't have much, if any, effect on your car/truck.  If mine gets the same brand of oil twice, it will be because the cheapest at the store I can find is sold out.

As for cough drops, I never buy those at Walmart.  Dollar General has a version of the Hall's honey/lemon that I like that is much stronger.  Add to the strength that the bag is $1.00!  I'll take that any day over the $3.00 bag of Hall's.  They both work the same, but I like the stronger flavor of the Dollar General version.  Hall's are almost too sweet and I will eat those like candy.

Yep.  I was just reading an article that the online shopping function they have now will eliminate that problem. Only thing is when you shop online, they have a bunch of recommended items for you - so go ahead and celebrate! You can still impulse buy!

Part of what makes me grocery shop at Aldi is the price (as they're way cheaper than anyone else) but also I know exactly where things will be when I walk in the door.

I don't have that freedom. My car takes a very specific grade and specification of oil that I can't usually find at Walmart or Canadian Tire (sort of a garage, car accessories, tools, and home and outdoor equipment shop, all rolled into one). I have to go to a NAPA or Carquest or even online to find it. Otherwise, things go wrong under the hood if it's not exactly the right thing. I bought my car from a mechanic friend who bought it for cheap, because someone had used not quite the right oil and the camshaft was wonky as a result. Ah, the joys of German engineering.

On the plus side, I can go up to 10,000 miles (not km) between oil changes. Makes $50 a 5-quart jug worth it. Very Happy

I simply I used motor oil and cough drops as examples of items that are typically out at my local Walmart when I need them, just to quantify my statement that WM never has what you need when you need it, but they'll sure try to convince you that what you really need is what they do have in stock. If find it humorous that everyone is now responding with what kinds of motor oil and cough drops they use! Very Happy  Maybe I should have used socks and underwear as an example. Or beer and potato chips.

lol!

Hmm. I wonder what kind of response I would have gotten for Depends and tampons.  Twisted Evil  affraid  What a Face
