Favorite Covers

I downloaded two versions of the Rolling Stone's song "Gimme Shelter" today, Holy Soldier and Ashley Cleveland. I am not a RS fan, have none of their music, but I have always liked this song and liked covers of it even better. It all started out when a local band here did a tight cover. I have been looking for the Ashley Cleveland version for some time (didn't really want to buy a whole cd for it Smile

), didn't even know Holy Soldier did one too.

Anyway, are there any covers that you like even more than the original and maybe have even more than one version of ? (Excluding Christmas music santa

) .

I remember we did a covers thread last year! I really dig cover tunes if they are done well. There are several covers of secular and Christian tunes done by Christian artists. Here are some of my favorites (and a few not so favorite).

War Pigs - Madgalen (orig by Black Sabbath)
Heart full of Soul – Joshua (orig by The Yardbirds)
Gimmie Shelter – Holy Soldier (orig by the Rolling Stones)
After Forever – F.O.G. (orig by Black Sabbath)
Sunday Bloody Sunday – Echo Hollow (orig by U2)
All Over Me – Die Happy (orig by Petra)
Love is Like Oxygen – Audiovision (orig by the Sweet)

The entire Treasure Seeker – “Tribute to the Past” is pretty much just covers of (mostly) 80’s Christian metal/rock tunes (they cover Stryper, Rez, Creed, Bloodgood, Jerusalem, etc.)

I love this cover, I would like to find the download, my wife loves this song too, think my kids would like it also.

I just recently heard it, and was very impressed. Now if I could just get the mp3 version detached from the orig Human track it comes after.

No need to apologize bro, we talk about the same stuff all the time here. Besides this is a good topic, and it has been a while.

I really like that cover from Rachel Rachel as well, but the recording quality is rather poor (and very quiet by todays standards). It would be supper cool if someone would remaster/fix-up that first Rachel Rachel album.

I must admit, Not that big of a fan of cover tunes. I like originality better. Not that covers are bad,just not my cup of tea.

I like the occassional cover tune if the band has enough songs to fill the album, and the cover is just icing on the cake. Also, the band must be able to make the song theirs while still keeping enough of the original in it to honor the artist who made it popular.

I definitely agree with this.....any cover that sounds just-like the original, I think "why bother".
