All jokes aside, that is the only time I use it, too. _________________ I might have decided, or maybe not, that I should or shouldn't, depending on the issue or non-issue, to possibly share or not share, any thoughts, opinions, or facts (that might not be deemed factual by some), due to possible fear of any misinterpretation or retribution. https://christianhardmusic.niceboard.com/

| I used to use it more, but it was better back then. They changed some policies that made a number of artists I followed there leave. | |

| Interesting. There does seem to be a lot of artist activity there, but not a lot of listener activity. | |

| Yeah. I use it when I'm away at school. Not at home so much. Not the app or anything, though. I found plenty of more obscure bands just kind of listening to whatever comes up. | |

| All of these different sites say they are the best place for fans to find your music. But very few actually are looking. | |

Agreed, I don't know what they charge the artists, but I think Bandcamp & Reverbnation are both much better than Soundcloud. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| You can upload a bit for free, and I think the bottom pay tier is like $7 a month. | |

| From what I've experienced on most of these music sites is that very few actually 'stumble' upon your music. The only ones who actually follow are other musicians trying to build their own fan base. So what's the point, eh? | |

Agreed, I have seldom found out about bands because I was listening to another band. Even on Reverbnation it looks like a lot of the "fans of this band" are just other bands or musicians. The internet has been a boon and a bit of a burden to musicians. It's great that so many bands can "get their music out there". But back when I was a young man looking for music I was probably only exposed to 20-50 indie/underground bands in any one year (and that was only if I was working hard searching for them). With the internet I can stumble across 50 new bands in a single afternoon. The bad part about that is indie bands have kind of over-saturated the market...you can't throw a rock anymore without hitting someone in a band. With that much to pick from, the process becomes a bit daunting and I find myself giving up. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the thrill of finding an undiscovered band that I really dig....but I'm a little tired of wading through 200 bands to find them. I'm certainly not pointing my fingers at any of the musicians on this board, but more than a little of that indie music is completely lacking in talent and skill, which also makes the search a little tiresome. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... It reminds me of when I would be working on a song and play/sing into an old shoe box recorder (you know the kind with a condensor mic), so I would have a copy of what I had come up with to work through later on. They were ridiculously poor recordings and I only used them to keep track of song ideas.....I would never ever have thought to release them to the general public. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... | I downloaded the demos from Five Iron Frenzy's latest album from Soundcloud and they sound better than a lot of finished songs on there.

I agree with you here. XD Generally, I've been able to find stuff I like, but I dunno. I mainly use soundcloud to listen to bands who are mainly on soundcloud and bandcamp. XD Then, maybe on youtube, their songs have only a few thousand views. Actually, with one band, their songs have only hundreds of views on youtube. I have a thing for obscure indie trash music. <3

I really like it when that happens. But with experienced bands "demo" sometimes just means that they recorded it with high quality home equipment and just never had it mastered. I think that's why some of those demos sound nearly as good as their bigger budget studio albums. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

Scott said the biggest difference between the demos and the final album were that Reese wrote new words, Reese sang and the horn section wasn't the horns on his keyboard.
