I just wanted to write and let you all know what
happened n case the story gets twisted around. We are on the Seether
tour as of now and we were headed back into Nashville early this
morning for a day off. It was to be our final voyage in the old van. We
recently purchased our first tour bus and we were making the special
trip home to jump on the bus for the first time.
This year the
band has logged 105,000+ miles on the road and everything was totalled
20 miles away from parking the van for the last time.
We were on
a 4 lane highway headed into downtown, I (Randy) was driving at the
time and I happened to be in the HOV lane. Everyone else was asleep.
Anthony was beside me up front and Mike, Jasen, Hayden, Joe, and Kelly
were all in the back sleeping. We had just stopped to get gas 3 exits
or so behind the accident, and I was going through my regular mirror
checks to make sure I was aware of the surrounding traffic. I glanced
to the left first, but as I went to look right I noticed some sort of
road debris in my lane, so not knowing if I had a car in the lane to my
right, I swerved left to avoid whatever it was. I had my eye on the
debris so just as we passed it I glanced up and I was half on and off
the right shoulder, and straight in front of me about 20 feet away was
a steel grade road barrier. I slammed on the brakes but had no time to
get completely out of the way, so we hit the barrier at 70-75 mph.
There
were 2 other vehicles involved and the guy in the pickup behind us said
that the van and trailer both went airborn for a sec or two. Anthony
and I went face first into our airbags, and for a split second I
blacked out. The next thing I remember is spinning to a stop, and
screams coming from all directions. Mike landed face first into the
back of the driver's seat, Hayden Jasen, and Joe where also slammed into
the seat in front of them, but Kelly was gone.
I was pinned under
the steering wheel but managed to get out to find Kelly standing with
an arm against the van with a very disoriented look on his face. He had
been tossed out the side windows and slid on his back for a good 10-15
yards. He said the van was sliding beside him when he woke up. So he
left the van asleep...what a nightmare!
So long detailed story
short, and from what you can see in the pics, we totaled almost
everything ,but everyone is alive and gear is replaceable. Angels were
definately among us in our smelly van.
We are all nursing minor
wounds, and will continue on the tour in a couple days. Please keep us
in your thoughts and prayers as well as all of our friends who travel
around the country, doing their best to make a difference.
