PostSubject: Some Thoughts On Jeremiah 12   Thu Jun 19, 2014 1:51 pm

So I've been reading Jeremiah and this morning something really stuck out to me:

Jeremiah 12:1 wrote:
You are always righteous, Lord,
when I bring a case before you.
Yet I would speak with you about your justice:
Why does the way of the wicked prosper?
Why do all the faithless live at ease?

To which God answers:

Jeremiah 12:5 wrote:
“If you have raced with men on foot
and they have worn you out,
how can you compete with horses?
If you stumble in safe country,
how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan?"

And God then goes into describing the punishment that'll happen for the wicked.  But I thought the first part of His response was particularly interesting, especially what it implies.  I read that as we're meant to race proverbial horses, i.e. do things WAY beyond our assumed/perceived abilities.  I guess that's kinda obvious, as there are reminders of that throughout the Bible, but it's just so extreme here.  I dunno, I find it rather encouraging and convicting so I thought I'd share it with y'all good folks.  You were designed and and are intended to do things so above and beyond!

Also, Jeremiah's prayer from chapter 10:

Jeremiah 10:23-24 wrote:
Lord, I know that people’s lives are not their own;
it is not for them to direct their steps.
Discipline me, Lord, but only in due measure—
    not in your anger,
or you will reduce me to nothing.

I've been kinda sitting in that verse lately too.  Complete surrender and seeking forgiveness and mercy for failing to surrender.  Good stuff...
