My nephews B-day cake

So we spent the better part of Saturday creating a Sarcophagus mummy cake for my nephew. Lot of work, but it was well worth it.

Oh man that is fantastic!. The sand looks like graham crackers, what did you make the mummys out of?

mummies are the only unedible things... I got these little action figures for some army thing and wrapped each one with paper tape I cut into strips.

We kept messing with my nephew and saying that there was a dead barbie doll inside the coffin. He's like "nuh-uhhhh"

now THAT would've been funny.

You could have made the mummies from marzipan or modelling chocolate to make them edible.

next year. Definitely be doin the modeling choc next year.

I'm really not "into" the whole thing, it's my wife that has the ideas each year and pushes me to do the art of the cakes. It's not until I'm a couple hours into it that I start thinkin, "hey, this is kind of fun and it's comin out pretty good" - then I get all into it.

But prior to that I'm like, "Ugh I don't wanna spend my whole day off doin a cake"

That sounds exactly like me. I don't know how many times my wife has talked me into something I was sure I didn't want to do....and I ended up having a great time.

That looks pretty epic. I wouldn't mind a cake like that myself

You should have tasted it... omg - solid sugar. I (with my special diet) could only have a bite - it was phenomenal. My wife home-makes everything including the frosting. Not that cheap whip cream frosting crap, but solid sugar.
Just working on the cake gave me diabetes.

That is a job VERY well done! I work at a bakery where they do custom, very expensive cakes, and yours is *almost* as good as the pros'!! They probably would have made the mummies from gum paste or something haha.

For members this small board feels like it's a family.
That's what it feels for me for many ... many years.
