Spoken

Does no one here besides me like this great band? Their brand new self titled album is very good and I've seen no mention of it here. This has been one of my favorite screamo/modern rock bands for a long time now.

I dig Spoken. I first heard them on a 7ball comp doing "people get ready (Jesus is coming)" and was blown away. That's some hard stuff there !

I like them. What are the lyrics like on the new one?

I'm not really a big Christian only lyrics person as I tend to listen to a lot of secular music as well as Christian music. So I haven't really delved into them a whole lot yet. With that said from the reviews I've read some are vague and some aren't if that's what you're asking. Spoken have never hidden what they're all about. I haven't checked out the new one yet. I have their last two discs and liked the fact that they were doing more singing/less screaming. I had hoped that this would continue.

I like them. I've only heard a few songs off of their s/t release, but I really enjoyed their previous albums.

BTW, have you heard some of their original stuff, like off of What Remains and albums like that?

Chris I think this one definitely has more screaming then their last two albums. Still has a decent bit of singing as well though. A Moment Of Imperfect Clarity is still by far my favorite Spoken album.

I just might have to buy it anyway. I was listening to Disciple yesterday on the way the hospital. I was really paying attention to how much screaming vox they have on their newest CD. So, Spoken might be some good music for extreme days like the last couple.

I had one of their albums but got rid of it. Not really my kind of thing.

If you had one of their very early albums then they are a totally different style from those now.

Oh yeah, they ditched the rap long ago.

Gonna see them and might pick them up from the airport at this years christmas rocknight.

Today I listened to some Spoken samples.
I think it's "cookie monster music"
Maybe I listened to the most heavy songs.
Are all the Spoken songs in this vein?

Cookie monster music, not hardly.

Does that mean it's soft cookie monster music?

That could probably fit. They do do some screaming, but they're a little different then a real "cookie monster" band.

A surprising number of American rock bands. Here I thought it was mostly another European metal show.

No CRN started way back in the early 80s and there are more and more American bands playing over here but also good German bands (I played there with Trust a couple of times). Worthy to go there anyway.

Now that I have this, it's not as good as their last 2 IMHO. His voice isn't very good for this much screamo.

Can't say I care for the lyrics either. At least there's one song I'll play.

I probably agree with you that this one isn't quite as good as their last one and I know it's not as good as A Moment Of Imperfect Clarity as that one is definitely their best to me. Still a pretty good album though. I don't mind the lyrics at all.

I was at a Day of Fire concert here in Iowa back in I think August and standing in the back and then right behind me...none other than Matt Baird from Spoken. He and 1 other member live in Iowa now so if he is in town and there is a concert he may show up.

I still haven't picked this up and probably won't. I've heard enough songs from it that I know that I wouldn't enjoy this. I have their last couple of CDs and enjoy them, but this much screamo is just overkill to me.
